Just brought home a 1988 600 Shadow for the wife to learn on. Every thing seems to be in great shape except the front forks only have 1 to 1 1/2 inch of travel. Even A full blown front brake till the tire starts to lock up stop won't make them budge. The bike has been ridden regualry this summer. Any thoughts

Drain and replace the fork oil with the correct type and quantity first, might just be overfilled. Anything more then that requires the fork to be disassembled.

I agree, pull the forks.
I've seen some people put in longer spacers to stiffen the suspension. Reduces fork travel."Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)Comment

Drained the forks today. They had well over twice the correct amount. Refilled them with the correct weight and amount of oil and they work just fine. Thanks for the advice.78E ... Gone but not forgotten
