  • Need pictures of 1980 xs850 wiring

I bogught a 1980 xs850 that is in good running shape but the turn signals don't work. It looks like someone messed with the wiring in the past and I need some pictures to see what I am dealing with.

Does anyone have some close up pictures of the wiring on top of the rear fender and under the drivers side panel. In particular the flasher module and its associated harnesses?

    Hey there MMayhall,

I don't have it, but there are folks here that have triples, 750 and 850's. They may be able to chime in with one??

Also, have you seen This Site , it's the Triples Web Site. I've searched it but they don't have a wiring diagram, but they do have owner's manuals for 750 and 850. You might want to join them and post a request in their FORUMs?

But aside from that, the signals, as well as several other electrical components can be problematic until you do a good once over and pull apart and clean and dielectric grease ALL of the electrical plugs and connectors. Also, clean battery cables, connectors, grounds....the engine to frame as well as battery to frame. The rear signal stalks use a large O shaped ring that has the ground wire connected to it, bolted around the mounting shaft, but corrosion and rust can prevent it from properly grounding! ALso, corrosion inside the light sockets can do the same!

Finally, the flasher unit can go bad. On the XS11, you can replace it with a 2 prong unit, I would think the same for the 850! Also, check the fuse by pulling it out, not just visually inspecting, use a meter, and check the holder clips, can be loose/cracked ready to break off, etc.!!

Also, problems can occur in the handlebar switch area as well as the connectors inside the headlight bucket!
    Good Luck!
