XS 750 Transmission Querey

Just found out mt neighbor who lives behind me has an XS 750 Triple. Don't know the year, bu it is a special. he bought it for $400 last year, he has some transmission issues, which brings me to my querey. are the gears in the 750 the same as the 1100? it sounds as though his 750 is going through all the same Tranny issues as some of the 1100 have been prone to (mine included). also, do the cases have to be split to get the countershaft out of the engine? the reason I ask is that I have almost a complete set of 1100 gears that need dremel fixed and figured if they are the same, fix my gears, swap them for his. thought I could save him some time. he says he's going to be looking for a new home for it this summer as I don't think he cares for the shaft drive. I told him it's a taller gear than the 1100 final drive, so maybe he'll be shopping for some modification parts, who knows. thanks in advance for any input. have a nice day and ride safe

Shhhhh, you weren't supposed to tell the guy about the 750's FD, you were supposed to tell him that it was next to impossible to repair, then get his bike for a song, swap out the FD for yours, and then fix the tranny and have a local sprinter 750 using the XS11's FD and have your XS11 fitted for cruising/mpg!!!!

Sad news though, you'll have to work on the gears on the 750, no swapping...see parts listing from parts site:

Thanks for the input, I have already given some thought to purchasing this particular machine as I have never owned a triple and they seem just different enough to appeal to my need for the obscure. as I said, he paid $400 for it last summer, he's put new rubber on it, so I figure he's gonna want at least $600 for it. I'm just not sure whether or not SWMBO will let dad buy another motorcycle. she's not too terribly fond of the beasts....hmmn, how do I pull this off? I need to give this some thought.
