  • Xv 1100

I have an friend who is thinking about selling a 1988 Yamaha
XV 1100. It has under 15000 miles. Does anyone have an opinion on this bike? What are they worth? How does the engine compare to the XS 1100? I do like how it sits and I like the low seat too. I value any ideas and thoughts you would like to share.

An XV 1100 is a Virago.

Nothing like an XS, it is a twin cylinder cruiser. I have no experience with them so maybe somebody else can pipe in.

      XV1100

I have a couple buds that have owned them for awhile,They love them, no real probs other than the noisy starter. They handle surprisingly well ,good range and comfortable for the most part.Lots of aftermarket parts and suppliers.I have installed dyno-jets kits in both of them and there's a noticeable performance improvement .(for future reference)....Will

        viragos

        does not compare,
i had a 1982 j650sj (maxima),baby bro the the sx11, and got a 750 xv, thought it would be a step up, no no, the maxima would leave it in the dust, from the line, or passing cars, or at top end, 4 cylinder and 4 carbs cant be beat, the 650 (inline 4) just dusted the 750 (v2)anyway ya want to look at it,
however i still wouldnt mind a virago 1100 someday, they look cool and they handle nice. but couldnt get my wife to except the 650 maxima or the 750 virago, for her to ride, says they are just to big for her, so she'll remain on the back of my 1980 sx11gs,
        my 2 cents.

My wife has the XV750 and my next-door neighbor the XV1100. Older XVs had starter problems, but that is largely solved. They are more cruisers than muscle bikes, but handle more nimbly than an XS and will go fast enough for a felony arrest, if that is your goal. While they don't have the arm-stretching power of a (well maintained) XS, they have enough, and of course, more with the XV1100. Lots of parts and after-market goodies available. Price is too subjective to guess-timate (as advertised prices for XSes range from $25,000 down to "Free To Good Home"), and you'll have to decide. FWIW, I'd buy one if the price seemed right.
