• Thinking of a New Bike

A friend of mine just got a new 07 ZX14 in blue. Very nice smooth bike. Makes me wonder if I should buy something. You know how it is. Someone buys a new bike and causes you to start thinking of a new bike. Few things in life are as fun to me as getting a new bike. A brand new bike! Sounds good eh? Or even a new to you used bike. Thats fun also. Wife is not much help either. Every time I say Iam thinking about getting a new bike her repley is always the same "What color?" she says.

I look at new bikes. They're nice. I like my XS's. No, I don't think the XS is the best bike in the world. I like mine .

A co-worker had his 2 year old BMW touring bike parked next to mine and he was trying to convice me that his was better. I think I convinced him that they were equally great bikes.

I tell you what - I'd rather hang out with a bunch of XS11 guys and gals than any of the Beemer crowd

It can be very XSpensive following the crowd. BUT, Can reward you with lots of toys. I too want another daily rider. A new one. Maybe a new Suzuki 1400 with a match 800 for SWMBO. But I'll always have MIYAMI. I've test drove alot of bikes. All different makes and models. I prefer, so far, my 79SF. My views may change about that Suzuki after I test ride one. I've been owned by MIYAMI now for about 6 years and have only got around 1800.00 into her. This is including brakes, hoses, carb kits, tires, bearings, mirrors, seat, paint, and oil changes as well as what I bought it for. Can't shake a stick at that.
I don't even want to start on Beemers. I think I already ranted about them a year or two ago...

"New Bikes"

A friend of mine just got a new 07 ZX14 in blue
Every time he gets a new girlfriend, you have to run out and get a new one, too?
Sure, it may look and smell nice.... and feel all curvey and firm...
What about the break-in period? What if she looks nice... but doesn't perform? Or worse yet, she displays too much power! The maintenence costs in the long run... I don't even want to think about!

We sold a ZX14 yesterday(red), so I had to do my usual ten mile test ride yesterday to scuff up the tires and such...
I don't normally... but as it wasn't raining... yeah, it'll get to over 100mph pretty quick.
Vulcan 900 is nice... low center of gravity, seat is lower for the 'vertically challenged', handles well, just a good all around machine.
Vulcan 2000, too big for what it does. Nice bike, but not built for speed, and too heavy for comfort.
Don't waste your time (or money) on a Ninja 250 or 500 unless you weigh under 105 lbs and have nice breasts. The 636 is equally useless.
Personally, I like the Triumph Rocket III better, but I'm more of a cruiser guy. (No, GNEPIG, I don't mean putting on my leather pants, sticking a colored handkerchief in my back pocket, and hanging out down at "The Manhole")
Triumph Sprint ST I enjoy. Sport Cruiser. I like the power, seat feels good, and for us taller guys, don't have to hunch over much ...putting all your weight on the palms of you hands, which gets old, pretty quickly.
Triumph Tiger: Too tall in the seat (though it's adjustable) Thin at the bottom and wide at the top. (that's a good shape for a female, bad shape for a bike) Just feels top heavy.
Victory: If you're thinking used... Stay away from '99 and '00 years. Think tranny, valves and connecting rods... And quit running to your mechanic all the time crying 'cause the belt squeeks... he's tired of hearing you complain about it!
The bike you really want is both powerful and comfortable to ride. Carburated, spark plugs easily accessable, parts are inexpensive, and you can work on it yourself at home.
Oh, that's right... you already own one!

If I was to get another bike it would be an enduro (dual-sport to those younger tha 25 ).
Before my E found me my money was going to a Suzuki DRZ400S.

Get a KLR650. Pat.
Rugged, indestructable... uses the same 29mm valve shims we do.

Wet blanket

In my dealings with the xj, I have found that they are a pita to get parts for. I'm not knocking the bike, just the fact that they are so rare, only being sold in the US for one year. I has many different systems than the XS, and parts for those systems are not interchangable. Right Tod?

Snow....Ouch
And Pat... I'm not that old yet compared to many of my fellow XSers, but if you started out on a little dirtbike as a kid, a dual sport will probably take you back there. All three of my bikes are great fun in their own way. I just have to decide what type of riding I want to do before I leave

Hi Dave,
saw a TV interview, a bikini'd blonde bimboid draping her mammalian hypertrophy over a new Hogley Poodleson at a bike show and being asked:-
What is your favorite color?
Ooh, she lisped, Chwome.
