The price seems great. I don't know the bike at all, though.

Seems XS-like in its quarter mile time, slower than Bandit.

Red line is at? The hp figs compare to Bandit, but the torque is lower. Where is this torque (the curve)? The motor is a ... ??? twin? four?

A quick Google on the bike - ah, it's a 3 cyl box frame, not tube. Riding position is comfy for you? It looks more sport-bike like than the Bandit or ZRX1200 or FZ1. A brand new Bandit is under $7k. Are Triumph parts expensive? I see the newer models of the Daytona have quite a bit more power and lower 1/4 mi times.

Looks like a nice bike. Wish I had direct experience to give you some better feedback.

From what I have read torque is from 2500-9000 and red line is 9500. The engine is fuel injected and can be remapped and add a race can for several hp, but race can is $600.00. Parts are a little more expensive than bandit... the experts say no additions to suspension needed has plenty of adjustments. The bike sits taller than xs but weighs 428lbs. No fuel guage, just light, but has 5.3 gas tank cap. It averages 47mpg and no reserve. I don't believe it is a wheelie machine unless you like stoppies!! Front brakes are unreal, and said to corner with most anything the average rider could give it. I believe it has 4 valves per cylinder..it sounds unlike any bike around unless it is a 3 cyl. The oil filter is external and it is water cooled and has an oil cooler. I just did not want to get a lemon or a money pit!! Or something I could not work on...It has a two year unlimited warranty that expires in may 2003...I am not sure if it transferrable or not. Any comments would be appreciated, thanx Mike for you input.

The warrantee is transferrable, I own a 2000 Triumph Trophy 1200 and a Bandit 1200. The Sprint RS is the 'cheaper' version of the Sprint ST. Both have the same engine (955 triple) and the same running gear, the RS is only half faired, and has a single seat with hump. I took a 2002 ST for a ride this summer and liked it a lot, there are some other differences for 2002 (single sided swingarm on the ST but double on the RS, and about 10 more HP) here is a picture of the RS and ST.

The hard bags can be had on the ST, but not the RS. For $6000 it seems like a great deal, is a Bandit cheaper? Yes....but it does not get the attention an Sprint RS would. Do you have a Triumph Dealer close by? If not you may not want to do it......if you had a problem you might be stuck having to haul it around. If I had the $6K and did not already own a Bandit and was looking for a great all round bike, that is a little on the sporty side, I would do it!

But anyway I do not have race cans on my Trophy (dual exhaust) but they are available, or at least D&D, Staintune and others make after market cans. A race can will be very loud and not street legal. Comparing a bike made over 20 years ago with one made today is apples and oranges. The Sprint will be better in every catagory (speed, handling, power etc, etc) execpt for the possible exception of comfort. I find my Triumph to be more comfortable than my 80G. I have a Trophy though not a Sprint RS. Here is a picture of my Trophy:

I added a Corbin seat and a set of 1" bar risers to my trophy and it is very comfortable, the RS has lower bars than a Trophy or a Sprint ST. You can get a double seat for the RS, but it is not made for two up highway touring. What do you want to do with it? That will tell me how to compare it to an XS............Both my Bandit and Trophy (or a Sprint) would stay before the XS, for sport or sport-touring duty. But if all I wanted to do was ride miles of highway then the XS is better than a Sprint RS in my opinion. Are you looking for a bike to replace the XS? or one to suppliment it?

BTW you should be able to rip great wheelies on the RS

I am interested in keeping the xs and want a bike that won't dive when I stop...will pass gas station after a 120 miles and fun to ride the twistees without being blown away by every bike on the road.. The xs is not slow but the average....It is a wonderful bike but I can't get a tkat brace for a while and the wobble in the front is scary!!! I should wait till winter a try for a better deal..I like the trophy looks and 4cyl!! I am still trying to figure out whether or not I will spring for Hayabusa 1999 unlimited model or settle for something else? Is thre Hayabusa worth the extra $$$ for ins. and initial cost verses a Bandit??? I am still looking and searching for the perfect all around bike!!!

Do you like the feet back and low bar position of most of todays sportbikes? That is the real question. The Hayabusa is a big, powerful, fast and beautiful bike, it does have a very sportbike like riding position however. BUT do you really need a 99 model that goes 194 mph or can you settle for the new models that only go 186?

There were a lot of problems with cam chain tentioners and sub frames cracking on the early models....but I suppose owning the fastest production bike ever made (in the Guiness book of world records) has it's advantages. Here is a picture of me on a bitchin 2001 Hayabusa at the Toronto bike show in 2001:

I am very happy with my Bandit and my Trophy (hell even my XS) the Bandit has enough power and potential power to keep me going forever. I guess I am more of a twistie guy, than a straight out HP guy. If you like to drag race than a 'busa is hard to beat but if you like the twisties and are used to a more straight up riding position than one of the sport standards or sport touring models may be more to your liking. I have one of each

. Take a look at bikes like the ZRX1200 or 1100, Bandit 1200, Yamaha FZ1 all are great all-rounders. The Trophy is no speed demon, top speed is around 130mph (same as an XS!!) but the 108HP and 77ftlbs of torque make it an excellent touring bike that will smoke all the other touring bikes in the twisties at only 518lbs. Bandit is both lighter and faster (tops out around 150).

Shack, you're sending mixed messages!

First you say you want a great all-around bike, then you start talking Hayabusa, LOL. The eye-abusah sure has a following, check out labusas.org.

The prob with an 'all-around' bike is that there are other bikes that do individual things better than the all-arounder.

You want a light fast wheelie machine, maybe the Yamaha FZR1, what an awesome machine, and good-lookin' too. For me, two bikes works real nice, a light snappy one, and a heavy comfy one.

Gary's Trophy, now that's a great all-around bike, but hey, he's taking the Bandit to Carolina...

The Trophy sure must handle better than the XS, but, hey, it's an all-around bike, ha ha.

Hard to beat a Bandit on price. But, $6k for that Daytona, well, how's the bank account? Maybe you need more than one more!!!!

The Bandit, with bar risers and a Corbin seat, has a pretty comfortable seating position. Myself, I can't handle much saddle time on an R1 or similar.

Have fun comparing! Ride as many as you can before you buy.

BTW, insurance on 'sport bikes' is considerably higher than on 'standards' or tourers. My ins co considers the Bandit a standard.

My insurance considers the Bandit a Standard as well. You’re Triumph dealer will offer demo rides, so call and ask what bike he has.

Ha! Me and Mike hardley have diverse opinions! We both love our XS/XJ and we both love our Bandits! And we are both pissed that you are getting a new bike and not one of us!!
