  • Quality Motorcycle Cover

I would like to know who makes a good quality bike cover? Give me some names and I can do the research. I tried one of those covers from Autozone made by BOGE. I think that was the name. It was a POS it faded and then ripped to pieces in about one year. There has to be something better than that out there. I figured I would ask what brands are better or worth the money before I waste my money on a POS again. Let me know!!!!!!!!!

      Cover

That is the problem, How do I tell if the cover online is any better that the POS I already had. What are things to look for in a quality cover. I don't see where they list the weight of the matterial in the description. So how do I know if one cover is better than another. The price is the only difference that I see!! You can still pay alot for a low quality cover so I don't think price is really a sign of quality. What covers have you used and how well have they held up?

I just googled "motorcycle cover" and saw some promising ones. I would suggest getting one with a waterproof top and a polyester/cotton blend heat resistant liner. Look for the seams to be waterproofed.

The 2 cover brands I've used are Dowco and Nelson-Rigg.
In my experience the Dowco has lasted longer and seems to be better quality.
Leaving the bike outside all year and covering it nightly, the Dowco lasts 2-3 years. Te Nelson-Rigg about 1 year.
Cheap blue tarp about 5 years as long as you keep it away from the exhaust.

            The army uses canvas.

Well guys, I do not know if they still make light canvas covers. But, I have a canvas cover that is so old (over 26 years) that the tag is faded away so I do not know who made it. Still works well but I do have to wash it and apply Scotchguard about once a year. You do need to let the bike cool off before putting it on though.

So, if you can find a canvas cover, I would recommend that.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

My .02 would to be go with the Dowco Guardian. The xl fits my 80g hardbagger well. It has panels on the lower portion so you can put it on over hot pipes. Also has 2 vents and a strong elastic band around the bottom to keep it from blowing off. Two eyelets are supplied if you really need to tie it on good. Comes with a storage bag so you can pack it with you. I have gone thru a few of these over the years and would use nothing else. I use a product called "303 Fabric Guard" to keep the water repellency up to snuff. Lasts longer than scotch guard and has a UV reflector to keep fading and rotting down. I use this product on my boat cover and jackets (not on leather) with great results. When I lived in NM, and had to park the bike outside in blazing sun, the Dowco could go 2-3 years before needing replacement. Dennis Kirk and Chapperal sell em along with most bike shops, mail order is the least expensive. The last XL I bought ran around $80. Cheap insurace to keep paint and seats from going south. I had to use it as a poncho one time when I was caught in a driving downpour and had to wait it out on the of the road for 1/2 hour one time, not an overpass in sight.
              When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger
