  • DT125 wires N such

While helping my friend clean out some of his sheds we came across a seriously neglected DT125 ('74). Thinking (ouch!) back to my childhood days, I'm recreating the history of this poor, abused child of the DT250. Let's see... was probably purchased used but in pretty good condition by a 9th or 10th grader who then proceeded to make it "better" by stripping off the lights, turn sig's & etc. Tach & speedo...out you go! Front fender... way too heavy! Air box?...too restrictive... and on and on. Hmmmm...this is bringing back memories. But mine was a CT175 so I don't know anything about the 40 pound generator/starter on the 125! I checked the Yamaha parts diagrams and they don't have a wiring diagram for this one. Does anybody have one they can post or can you tell me which wire(s) are really necessary to make the thing go? Any help would be really appreciated.

I'm not sure if it will help, but here is a wiring diagram from the Clymers manual for the 68-76 DT 250-400cc series:

I used this to finally sort out the wiring on a 74 DT360 I came into this summer:

If it does not help, there is a Clymers manual #M410 that covers the "80-175 Piston Port, 68-76"

If it will help, I think the 125s were called AT1s. I had a 69 AT1 125 in my early 20s, in my mid 20s i had the 400 enduro, two CT1 175s in my early 30s. I also owned one just like Ken has, but not for very long. recently, i have sold a GT 80. I love Yamahas.

Thank you for the help, guys. Ken, your wiring diagram is not quite what I need. Prior to 1974 only the 250 had the DT designation. The 125 was AT, the 175 was CT and I can't recall if there was a 360 prior to the year of manufacture of Ken's beauty. In 1974 All the enduro's (dual sport models, with lights and all that jazz) became DT's. There were MX's and IT's also that were strictly off road bikes. What I thought was odd was that the 125 had an electric starter! And not the kind we're used to. This is actually a generator (dc) that when current is applied, i.e from 12V battery via starter button and solonoid it act as a motor and spins the crank. Like a 2 stroke golf cart, only on the golf cart when you reverse the polarity to the starter/generator it starts the motor running in reverse. (2 strokes will run backwards) Anyway all these little tidbits of information I have learned over the years don't do me much good right now. I still don't know diddley about electrical stuff such as testing generators and circuits and the like. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and but yet another Clymers manual. I wish they had a book of the month club!
