    Gday guys,

You might have seen my post on the XS900.

I've tried to incororate all the best from the XS750/850/1100.

The front end of my 900 is pure 1100 including the cluster, and there is the rub. Of course my speedo works great but I can not get my tach to work or the gas gauge. As far as the tach goes, I tried hooking the white wire from the tach to one of the white wires coming off the charging system to no availe. I also tried to hook the white wire to the number one yellow coil wire, still nothing.......any ideas??

The gas gauge is another issue, I've searched hi and low for a wiring diagram that would tell what I should be attaching to where, with no success. Again can anyone help.

    Thanks for your time,

    Jager

    Hey Jager,

You didn't say, or I didn't remember what year are your front forks and gauges from, 78,79,80,81 Standard? According to the wiring diagram for the 78-79STD's, there are three wires to the Tach/fuel gauge combo. Yellow is power into the gauge. The solid green is from the fuel gauge that goes to the "sending" unit on the tank, and then it goes to GROUND. The white wire is like you thought, goes to one of the 3 white wires for the alt.

The blue wires are for the guage lights power, the black is the light grounds.

I'm no electrical guru, Randy is ours!! I don't know IF there is any difference in the # of pulses from the 11 ALT system vs. the Triples? But the white wire is just the pulse sensor, the guage still needs the yellow power lead energized to provide the power for the magnets and the fuel gauge!

      TC,

Sorry for the lack of info, I have an 1980 1100 front end w/ the gas gauge in the tach. I will check the yellow wire for power, that just might be it. I hope I didn't blow the tach hooking it up to my coil lead

Thanks for your help, I would love to get the rest of the insturments working. The bike is truely showing alot of promise.

And the confused looks I get form self proclaimed bike experts are priceless
