  • XS-400 throttle stuck?

    Hey guys,

I'm glad I found this site as you guys have a lot of good information and experience to share regarding the XS-400.

Anyway, the question is this...sometimes when I give the bike some throttle it will return back to idle when I close it. However, sometimes it seems stuck at around 4,000 RPM and eventually it comes back on it's own. We did lube the throttle cable but maybe we need to lube it more? Any other ideas where I should look?

    Thanks!

You'll be able to see if it's the throttle cable by watching the lever in the middle of the carbs to see if it's coming down all the way when you release the throttle.

My 400 has always seemed pretty sensitive to richness....when the chokes out, it idles at aroud 3000. half-choke at around 1700. I've just figured it was the nature of the beast.

    Maybe your running to rich?

Something else you might want to check is the throttle tube itself. Slide the throttle tube grip and all off the handlebar after you unhook the cables. Check to make sure there is no dirt or anything on the handlebar. Clean and relube and then reassemble. Sometimes the switch screws can be to tight and cause the throttle to stick as well.
      Hope this helps
