A buddy of mine has a Moto Guzzi. Does anyone know how to adjust the timing chain or how to find TDC on those bikes. I told him the guys on this site know everything about bikes.
On the right side there is a plastic/rubber plug... near the gearbox case. If you pluck it out, you will see a gear. It has markings on it. At least the big block guzzis do. Smaller too I think.
I have some shop manuals for old old big blocks... V7, V850 eldorado...
Timing chain can be a bit tricky.. dunno why adjust it unless the whole engine was apart. You got screws and pushrods and stuff.
Unless he has some fancy big 8 valve thingie... V10 centauro etc.

PS: I'm still shopping for a big block old guzzi (LM1 - T3 - SP).
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew you would know. I'll find out the particulars on year and model. All I know about it is that it's a nice looking bike. We did a ride down the Skyline Drive together last year and it kept up with my XS pretty well javascript:smilie('')
big grin. I think he bought it off E-bay. Anyway, I'll pass on this info and get some more info to post.
and he wants to mess with the timing chain because...?
Valve job is easy. Take off the rocker covers, take out the rubber plug, set valves, reassemble with a new cover gasket.
If he doesn't know how to set the valves, he should have the shop do it.
