Of course, right now you don't want it. After stripping out a plug and pulling the head to clean out the threads, I discovered the cam lobes, cam journals, valve seals, and rocker arms were all ate up. Looks like it got ran without the benefit of oil. Way too worn out for a motor with only 16,000 miles on it. At least the bottom end looks ok. Always wondered why it smoked a little.
Luckily I got a replacement head, cam, and top cover (all from a '77 motor) on Ebay on the super cheap. (only $6.50 for all of it!!). If it all fits, I hope to have it going by this weekend.
That is, if it'll ever stop raining here......

i know someone with a XS400 thats in pretty nice shape. does need work though. it only has about 4000 miles on it. and its been sitting around for like 6 years in her garage. i think she only wants like 700 for the bike. clean title and like i said nothing wrong cosmetically. she said it ran when they parked it but it still has the old gas in it and need some shocks. I dont know if it is a special or not but i can look and take some pics if your interested?
I know where a 81 xs400 is in Wichita Kansas. Needs gone throught comes with extra motor, and extra forks. He wants $350 for it. Only has about 7K miles
