  • What year YZ250??

    I bought an old YZ 250 a few years back. I was under the impression it was an '82 model, but apparently it's not since '82 models were liquid cooled. Mine is air cooled. The numbers on the collar are 4V3-****** and the numbers on the motor are 4V300***** Does this help?

    Hey Todd,

    A little research on the Parts Fiche site revealed this info:

    80G Ser# 3R4

    81H air cooled

    82=5X5 serial # series

    They lumped the info on the Serial #'s together for 80-81 for some reason, so your 4V3 would fall right in between the 80 and 82, so looks like it's an 81, and they are air cooled!

    Hope this helps?

      Thanks TC.

      I guess I can start looking for the right jug for this thing then! It needs rebuilt again, but when I bought it and went to bore it and hone, I found out it's already .080" over... the most you can go, so I just honed and re-ringed it and went on. Trying to find a used jug..... cheaper than re-sleaving it.
