  • yamaha yz250 stator

Hi Everyone.I recently aquired a 1978 Yammy yz250.Heard from a good source that he seen it run a few times. Was told by source and buyer that the stator\magneto was bad.Well Neighbor had maybe same year parts bike so i got the coil and black box off his.The bike is now will sometimes spark just a little...just enough for me to feel it...but not enough to jolt me.Other times it will not spark at all.Around the stator\magneto there is a few small cuts in the wires where the magneto was spinning???thus cutting into the insulation.Since i have moved the wires so they would not ground.Could this small amount of exposed wires cause the bike not to fire right? If the stator coils are bad could i have them rewound or do i have to contact the manufacturer to replace them for way too much$$$.The bike is complete and i would like to ride it a little .Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please post your opinions!!!

I'd test the coil with an ohm meter to see if the resistance is within spec before I spent any money on it.

I believe i tested one of the startor coils with an ohm meter and it read at 6000???Im not really sure what it should read.

Ithought i read it should have some resistance but if it was working correctly shouldnt it read infinity ???i believe my ground tests were infinity. what kind of symptoms would i have if the stator were bad????

If it reads infinity, then you have a problem. You really need to get the specs so you can test it and know if the problem is in the exciter coils or the brain box.
