Had my kids on the bike with me about 3 years old (just up and down the block).
Took them for regular day-long rides at around 10. They tire easily.
It does get boring on the back of a bike.

      Early riders

      Hi Mike,

we drift from early passengers to early riders but yeah, I got my two stepsons into casual dirt riding when they were 7 & 9.
Their mother went up in a sheet of flame about that but I told her,
There's two options with boys and bikes, they ride suitable machines under our guidance or they hide their widowmakers at their buddies place and ride unsupervised behind our backs,
      which do you prefer?
Now in their 20's the boys have far better technical riding skills than I do but they still believe they are immortal.

Yep, just as you and I were immortal at that age. Guess we were right, we're still alive!

Thats cause he hasn't crashed really hard, yet. First endo off a set of triples and he will slow down, for a while anyway.

            6

took my daughter on semi long rides at 6 yrs. she really enjoys it ,but i did not. we had a rash of cycle accidents about then with one girl losing her life at 11 yrs. so i thought better and do not take her any more. i or my wife could not stand our selves if our baby was to get hurt on the bike. by the way she was already in a cage reck roll over to boot.thanks for the good saftey seat and harnesses. not even a scratch on her.

My father took my mother and me home from hospital as a newborn on a 1956 Triumph TR3 (I was in the sidecar), or at least that's what he tells me. Damn! That bike must be 50 years old by now...Double Damn!! The newborn is now 49

I took my oldest grandson for a ride on his first birthday. Just up and down the sidwalk infront of the house. When he turned 5 he decided he wanted a "long ride". So we went around the subdivision we live in. Once he gets on it's hard to get him off.

My granddaughters however have been more reluctant to ride. My oldest grandaughter finally decided that if her big brother was having so much fun, she didn't want to miss out. Last summer she asked if she could ride too. She just turned 5. Before this if I just tried to sit her on a bike with the engine off she would start to scream.

I understand though. I still scream when I get on my bike. (For joy!)
