That was a first option, however, I haven't found an affordable sidecar. I've seen pictures of XS11's with sidecars, but haven't found anywhere to get one. Off course money is always an issue, the guys at 2wingnuts here in San Antonio said they could put thier version of a trike kit on it (BASICALLY TRAINING WHEELS) for around $4000.00. I don't have that kind of money and the idea of training wheels on my bike after 30+ years of riding just doesn't appeal to me. If you got a lead on a cheap sidecar, let me know....
    Thanks in advance,

I have been toying with the same idea. I even thought of changing it to chain drive, but I gve up on that idea
because i have not seen a chain drive change over to my liking.
I am still going to make a trike out of an 1100 just because.
In the meantime, I have bought a VW rat trike that is a lot of fun
to ride. I am adding fenders, turn signals and am making other mods to suit my taste. I do not like exposed wheels and no turn signals. I have reverse with the transaxle/transmission and I will try to implement a reverse on the 1100 somehow. I have seen a gear box on the British site triker.net , I believe, where someone had two gears made up in an aluminum box. With one gear being ted to the output of the engine and the other going back to the diffferential. This way you do not have to rotate the rear end.
      Keep us posted.

My Dad and I used to build trikes in the Houston area. In the 70's and early 80's we built VW trikes, then we switched to the V-8 trikes. I always liked the VW trikes, but don't have the resources to buy or build one. In the case of the XS11, I got it for $300 in boxes and buckets and can store it in my tool shed until I start welding.

          Finding a sidecar

remmcool sez:- That was a first option, however, I haven't found an affordable sidecar. I've seen pictures of XS11's with sidecars, but haven't found anywhere to get one.

          Hi there,
lotsa sidecars around but you have to look hard to find one.
You can get a bottom of the line sidecar new for a touch less than $4,000 but you can pay less than $1,000 for something reasonably nice used. Or any fool with a stick welder can run up a chassis though a body that don't look like a shoebox is more difficult to manage.
Warning. Get a sidecar with easy entry. Mine you gotta slide in like a fighter plane. My wife is spry enough to manage but I need a sturdy helper to haul me out of it.
          Sign up with these guys:-

Lotsa members in TX who may be able to point your way to a reasonable used sidecar.
I'd say a used Ural or Dneipr sidecar (from those wonderful people who gave you the T34) would give the best value for your dollar and they are easy access.
Or troll ebay, try "sidecar used USA" as a first entry.

Hey Fred who's side you on?

How am I ever gonna convert everyone to Trikes while you keep going round with sensible suggestions like fitting a sidecar?

              rival pushers

              Hi Neil,
You push your drug and I'll push mine.
One of us can move to the next alley and the customers can make up their own minds where to buy.
A trike can, with intellegent design, carry as much stuff and seat as many people as can a sidecar rig.
However, a trike inescapably has to have three tracks.
One track can swerve around bumps, potholes or stray dogs.
              Two tracks can bridge them.
Three tracks and no easy way you can avoid them.
The only way to get a trike back onto two tracks is to build
a modern version of a Scott Sociable.
And technically, that was a sidecar rig.

It's kinda funny with both y'all responding..... I do have 2 bikes.... one running (that would be a good one for the sidecar), and the other in boxes, that WILL make a great trike.
