Go with HVLP, (high volume, low pressure). Less overspray. better control and dont need as big a compressor. The "old" style siphon feed guns need more CFM to operate, use more paint and makes for more overspray.
    When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

What he said! I really like the little Harbor Frieght HVLP gun we have. It has a 20 oz cup, and that is plenty to apply two coats with.

Costco has a kit with BOTH types, for under $90.00. Multiple guns, including touch up.
I just purchased one to paint my bikes with. I'm now waiting for either Noah or the rain to stop.

well i was up to a local closeout place in my area and saw a hlvp touch up gun for 19.99, its a cal-hawk, ( cheep I know)
but i wanted to try it before i wasted 100.00 on a better one

I have a tank and side covers to do, so this may be good

well so far, what i'm doing is repainting the whole bike
it is a 78E standard maroon and chrome

i'm changing it into a midnight theme
all chrome is going to be either black or gold
tank will be black as well as the side covers

won't get to the exhaust or motor this year
but so far I have sprayed over 50 items
using rattle can, but doing a good job of it
              1 coat primer
              2 coats of color
              and 2 coats of clear

              check this out

the 2nd one down, its called the bad

I really like what I see with the Bad. The blacked out treatment is wicked. I have entertained the thought of doing the forks on my bike black also. Are you planning on painting the engine black, also? That would look bitchin'. Where did you get the black bars? Are they OEM Yamaha, or aftermarket? Do they have any for a Special?

engine i will do next year along with the pipes

the black bars are the stock chrome bars that came with the bike

                  sanded down and painted

the good thing was, after redoiing the first bike
I had alot of sad looking chrome parts left over
so sanding them down and painting was about the only option
as rechroming is way out of reach price wise

I still haven't run this bike on the road yet
but it runs good, so i hope it will go down the road good
                  we will see
