Beads in my tires??????????

Ok, well a buddy of mine recently bought one of those OTHER brands (V-45 MAGNUM) I guess everybody can't be a yam. nut! Anyway he put new skins on, installed at local tire dealer (goodyear) They told him new ballancing tech. is to put plastic/glass beads in the tire!?! This principle just dosen't sound right to me. (centrifugal force) I'm not phisics maj.!! He had it done, seems to work. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or tried it?

I guess it works and been around a-while. Primarily trucks though. Didn't see any testominals from bike owners. Same principle, smaller tire. Huh, i'll be durned!
