Originally posted by Pat Kelly I'm not ragging on HD... I just return the razzing. I do the same thing to Chevy owners .
It's the same with sports teams, if everyone liked the same team then what's the point?
True that as well Pat. The razz at HD is all in fun. If one is stupid enough to pay exhorbant sums of cash for the same amount of fun...be my guest.
I have bus loads of friends that ride Harleys and they razz me all the time. It's only fair I razz them back.
The funny thing is when I "razz" them they get pissed. I have maybe 2 or 3 thousand tied up in any Eleven I've ever owned. They'll easily have 5 or 6 times that amount in theirs and they really get pissed when I point that out plus the fact that any one of these old Elevens can run circles around their $20,000 vibrator...hehehehe...that really gets 'em BENT. I keep hearing Jack Nicholson saying "Truth?...You can't handle the truth!"
But I think Tod summed it best when he said:
you can always end with, "You know... you're right. Lets just race for pink slips!"
Let me add one more thing. The position that an Eleven is superior does not simply apply to Harley. This generally applies to all Harley clones as well...Road Stars...Vulcan...Volusias...VTX blah blah blah. It's just that the Jap clones don't cost as much.
...why do I suddenly get the feeling I just opened a new can of worms...
What gets me about all this is that there is always the case where a bunch of people are just joking around and having fun, and sitting off to the side is somebody watching "With utter disgust" that don't get the joke. Loosen up, grab a beer if you drink one, sit back and join in the fun, or.... if it disgusts you, quit reading.
Like it or not, there will always be fans of one thing or another that will razz others that aren't of their mind set. Sports teams razz each other, sports FANS razz each other, Chevy fans razz Fords or anything else, and vice versa. I have seen people on here that OWN Harleys, razzing Harleys because this is an XS site. MOST of us realize that this is all done in fun. I razz Harley owners I ride with because they razz me. I can dish it out, but I can take it also. If you just happened to be the type that can't take it, don't dish it out. If you didn't dish any of it out, just stay out of it and let us boys have our harmless fun!
Tod
PS... How many times can you say RAZZ in a post??
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.
You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

You know, the only HD riders who've ever dissed my bike are the guys still making payments. The old boys who own their Harleys and do their own repairs usually look it over and say something like, "That's a nice bike. A buddy of mine had one once. Faster'n hell!"
"Time is the greatest teacher; unfortunately, it kills all of its students."
3 weeks ago I was in Marblefalls, TX at a gas station when 6 Harley riders pulled in, all the chaps and leather, etc. and on my way out I noticed a couple of them were staring at my bike and talking, so I struck up a conversation. I nearly fell off the bike when all of them were complimenting my bike (and it aint that good looking (yet!)). About how a 28 year old bike looked and sounded so good, didn't smoke or knock, and in general had good comments about it. At first I thought they were mocking her, but they weren't. Kinda made my day a little better.
They actually were commenting on how many problems their Harleys had and how much shop time compared to ride time, of course I didn't tell them ALL of the details on my bike and it's issues...... (mostly due to 9 years of sitting under a carport) before I got her. Anyway, I am used to all the "ribbing" I used to get from Harley riders, so it was a nice encounter. Even the handful of Harley riders I work with have made positive comments, and in general say that riding is what really counts.

- 2008 Honda Goldwing GL1800P
Two Lane Road Riders Association
Southern Cruisers
TMRA, TxCOC, etc....
And that is why this is all in FUN. We all ride, and enjoy it, or we would not be on bikes. I did talk with a harley rider as ELiberty and I were leaving a local "watering hole", and he made a comment about my bike running after so many years, and his would probably be junk when I was still riding mine. He was riding a SoftTail, with about 71K miles on it. He was also a "rider", not a poser.

Probably the only part not rebuilt (at least twice) was odometer.
There's harleys out there that are pretty quick. You just have to have deep pockets. Just the mods cost 2/3 times what an XS cost new, and then you can expect it have a relatively short life.
Have seen several (older) Harleys I like, and will get one if I run across a basket case at the right price. Gota love to tinker.

It is fun to think about, but not a great idea to actually do it. Kind of like mouthing off your local law enforcement officer, it is a lot funnier in the movies than it is in real life. Regardless of why the HD guys have flags on their bikes, I think flying Japan's colors crosses the line from good natured fun. I also see a lot of Goldwings flying the stars and stripes, and I am thinking this is a patriotic thing.
As for teasing other riders, can you guys help me out with what to say to the European bikes riders? Although more expensive than an XS, they are fast, reliable and comfortable to ride. I point out the low entry cost, but they just give me smug looks!
