  • Battle Cruiser's New Look

The Battle Cruiser paint project was completed this morning. Like any proud papa, I'd like to share some pics...

I went with my Navy Chief's heritage in badging choice

Fairing was a bear to get back in alignment, but I think it looks much better in Body color over flat black

    Hope it stays this way..

.. Woooooh baby! that is nice, i love the fire mist blue.
dont leave it sit out in the sun for prolonged periods of time or that blue will fade within a couple of years
    ..good job man!

That's all Dupli-Color with a High Temp Clear Coat. Deep Blue Metallic is the color. This is my third rattle can job on a bike. Each one has been progressively better. This time I built myself a Paint Tent in the garage to help keep the dust down.

I first filled the shallow dent I had, then Dupli Color primered it (gray). Then I sanded with 800 grit, another coat of primer, sand, primer, etc.

The color coats are sanded with 800 on the first coat and 1000 there after. About 6 coats of color on it.

The Clear coat is sanded at 1500 grit between coats. 6 coats of clear coat.

Total cost of job is around $120 including new hardware for the fairing.

One thing I will do before my next job (on my XT 500) is get a good quality respirator. The Dupli Color puts off a H _ _ _ of a fume.

                Hey Bandet,

It's getting closer to consistent ridin' weather. You still want to get together and do a ride?

                  BLUEJEEPLAB;

Very nice work. I got similar results with Duplicolor. Like you wrote, it's the sanding that makes the difference. Maybe it should be called a sanding job instead of a paint job!

That high heat clear is gas resistant. Wax the hell out of it and gas will run right off!

I know, I'm a skimmer. I just couldn't work myself up to the idea of not being able to go out on deck and suck in some fresh air. My hat is off to guys who can gut themselves up to man a boat designed to sink.

Okay, give me a shout when you're ready. I was out last weekend too. I don't mind it being a little cold, I just don't like getting wet.
