paint sprayer

Non motorcycle related question but has nothing to do with politics, helmets, or types of oil so it should be safe right? :-D

I am finishing my basement and have a old general purpose Sears paint sprayer to use with my air compressor. Can you use these with water soluble interior paint? Would it be too thick?

You could, I would NOT. You would need a full resperator, and you will have overspray on EVERYTHING!!
An airless is the way to go. you should be able to rent one at your local tool rental place.

When I painted my bike and still had my paint gun out, I thought I would try spraying a couple of project pieces with a water based paint...
First, I had to thin the paint quite a bit to get it to spray properly and even then it was iffy... I am certain it was my inexperience with the gun and the product. All in all, when I finally got it finished, it coated nicely and there was some overspray... but not nearly as much as if I had "canned" it. I did wear a respirator just in case... my glasses and watch had nice little polka dots on them though... very stylish.

In the end, it would depend on the sprayer you have and what it is capable of handling. I guess you could always try it and if it doesn't work... try something else.

I have a wagner sprayer, and you will still get overspray with it. And, when you run out of paint in the bottle, you will get spatter marks on your work as it loses the paint. This is my only complaint about it.. other then that it works fine.

The larger ones would probably work better as you would have a larger supply of paint. Or, a small one like mine with the adapter to draw right from the paint can.

Since there's no carpet down over spray isn't a problem. Does the paint last longer whey you use the sprayer in comparison to a roller?

Initially, it went much faster.. both in paint, and time. There is an adjustment on it for paint thickness and I had it set WAY too thick at first. Once I thinned the adjustment out, it seemed to last just as long.

One thing if you haven't thought about it... I'm assuming you're painting drywall. Tint your primer the same colour as your finish coat. It wont' be exactly the same colour, but you will use less finish paint if the primer is close to your finish colour.
