Here is something a buddy Emailed me. I think it's right to the point.

    Subject:Three Cheers for Australia!

This expresses thoughts very similar to an editorial by Andy Rooney on NBC

Please read all the way to the end.

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television.
"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better
    option," Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country.
Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off".
"Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off," he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

AMERICA and Canada..... ARE YOU LISTENING?
Australia- The Right to Leave Our Country ...
After Sydney not wanting to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights.

After hearing that the State of South Australia changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered.

This prompted this editorial written by an Australian citizen.
    Published in an Australian newspaper.
    QUOTE:
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave
It I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the
    majority of Australians.
However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia.
However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.
This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.
This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish,
Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!
Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push but a fact because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, Because God is part of our culture.
We will accept your beliefs and will not question why, all we ask is that you accept ours and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.
If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like " A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.
We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means keep your culture but do not force it on others.
This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this.
But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great
Australian freedom, "THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".
If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here.
You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.

Pretty easy really, when you think about it. I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers, lets all try, please.
    Thank you!

I wonder what the Aboriginies feel about this after "Parlimentary Law" has been forced down their throats.
If you don't want to live as the local established culture (Aborigine) then clear-off.

Look at the American Indian. He would hunt and fish all day, have sex all night. The women did all the work. Took the white man to screw-up that arrangement.

"To every problem there is a solution; simple, neat, and wrong." Mencken. (? spelling.)

Don't know about Australia, but here in America you have a Constitution that protects the minority positions, such as free speech, permission to practice religion without government interference, and other theoretical freedoms. Majority opinion doesn't count for much; latest polls show about 69 percent of Americans think we should get out of Iraq in the next 12 months; I don't see it happening. The Revolutionary War was supported by only about 15 percent of citizens at the time, according to historians; may have been a good thing the revolutionaries didn't take public opinion polls before issuing the Declaration of Independence.

Love it or Leave it has been around a long time, was a popular (in some circles) bumper sticker during the Vietnam War. While I agree immigrants have to adapt to their new country, incluing acceptance of laws, language, and culture, I don't agree that it is an all-or-nothing proposition. The US has adopted a lot of foreign culture ideas, including Christmas trees (German) and holiday feasts (Roman) as well as a language that is upwards of 60 percent French. (Not to mention adopting other useuful words, such as "Schmuck", which is Yiddish.) Cultures are not static, and immigrants are often the catalyst for change. Again, could be good or bad, but change is inevitable and unlikely to be controlled by governement edict.

In America, more and more policy is based on religion rather than on intellect; I find it ironic that people are criticizing foreigners for expressing their religious beliefs when here at home we are having votes about teaching creationism ("intelligent design", a religious philosophy) in science classes which are funded by taxpayer dollars. What ever happened to Separation of Church and State? I'll give you a hint...it wasn't destoyed by Muslims.

I find it hypocritical to have a group of people who are tring to force religious beliefs on me (stem cell research controversey, anyone?) complain about the religious beliefs of "others", or how those "others" are trying to reshape government.

I was at the local Nissan Dealership getting my Xterra it's 15K service, and struck up a conversation with this fellow, first talking about oil, then motorcycles....he has an old 68 KZ 750-4!!

There was a TV in the waiting room, and stories about the war on terror came on. This guy has been in the US for decades. He told me about the "problem" with Islamic religion in that just like most religions, they are to try to convert non-believers to Islam! But, then, IF they cannot convert you, then "YOU" are their ENEMY and are to be fought, destroyed, killed, etc.! He said that this was written in their religious documents...?Koran?.

SO....it seems that Muhammed didn't believe in TOLERANCE, and fundamentalists take it to extremes!

Also, part of the problems in IRAQ was brought about many decades ago when the Imperialists took over that area, and tried to make a country out of the 3 different religious sects, the SUNI, the SHIITE, the Kurds. Trying to keep this country together with these very different groups is going to be extremely difficult. They oughta divide the country back up into these different Sects, and put ALL of each kind in their own little country!!

More people have been killed in the NAME of RELIGION, than just about any other "political" war.

I hope IRAQ can hold itself together, but if they go into CIVIL WAR, let them! We have already lost more servicemen trying to fix their country than what we lost in the 911 attack. I don't see a break even point ever!

                mro:

Try reading the Bill of Rights, Amendment 1, which reads in part:

                Amendment I:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion....

Note the Constitution doesn't say "a religion", just "religion". The intent was to treat all religions as equalls, a condition not found in today's politics. Federal and state laws are being sponsored - and passed - that promote faith-based legislation, (the already noted "intelligent design" theory, for example) thus elevating a particular set of religious beliefs over others. To me this is a violation of the Constitution.

                  The plan for peace

There are many conflicting passages in the Koran which was written over a 23 year period and the different passages reflect the different circumstances faced Mohammad as time passed. The extremists sieze on certain verses to justify their particular beliefs and ignore the context of the chapter and the totality of the book. Christian extremists do the same with the Bible which was written over a huge span of time by many different writers. Complicating the problem for Christians are the many translations of the Bible and differing ideas of the translators and confusion about the meanings of passages in Hebrew and Greek.

Having said that, check out Robin Williams' Plan For Peace:

                  The Plan!

Robin Williams, wearing a shirt that says "I love New York" in Arabic.

Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect Plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams' plan... (Hard to argue with this logic!)

"I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan."

                  1) "The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past &present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those "good ole boys", we will never "interfere" again.

                  2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

                  3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them.

                  4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

                  5) No foreign "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

                  6) The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while .

                  7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

                  8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere." They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need
it most get very little, if anything.

                  9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

                  10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH...learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?

"The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses." She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece of me?' "

That disgusts me on a level I can't even begin to relate with mere words. More like a wretch. Someone needs to just shoot these bastards, and help make the world a better place. It's cool to see bikers taking a stand against it!

                        Thanks Wes!

Amazing how people just interpolate and infer things and they get repeated. I do like Robin's I love NY shirt in Arabic though. It's obvious he's entertaining the troops. Still like the "Peace Plan" too, it's both funny and thought provoking. And it is the sort of thing that Robin Williams is prone to saying, the guy goes on these manic tears and I think he is surprised many times himself by the things he says.

SWMBO and I shared a table with him at a dinner in San Francisco some years ago on the occasion of the re-opening of the Fillmore Auditorium. He just came up and asked if he could sit with us. There was room for one more at the table but no one took the seat, guess they were in some sort of awe of the guy. I'm in awe myself but we found him to be pretty down to earth. He wasn't "on", just normal everyday conversation with one or two witty remarks.
