    Tires ?

Looking for some thoughts on what brand/make of rubbers to put on my XS. I'm no drag-racer, I admit I'm more of a rolling on state hiways checking out parks and stuff like that.

    Tour tires i guess?

    Ideas?

    Metzlers? Dunlops? Pirelli?

Oh No, not another TIRE THREAD!

    Hey there K.B.,

You really ought to do a search for words like "recommend tires", and READ!! This and OIL is one of the two most controversial subjects with as many opinions as another body part!!

In the LINKS section, you'll find a thread with many of the TIRE manufacturers listed, do some browsing and check them out.

The only tire I've had to replace on my bike thus far is the rear. I put a Bridgestone Battlax BT45 V rated tire on there. Its been great thus far. I've got about 4500 miles on there, and it looks good for a couple thousand more. Good traction in any condition and not too expensive for the technology they hype on their website.

The manufacturer's recommended tube type tires for my 1978 Yamaha XS1100E were:

        Front: Bridgestone 3.50H19-4PR

        Rear: Bridgestone 4.50H17-4PR

The closest thing to these sizes now are the Bridgestone BT 45's which are much improved over their 1978 forbearers.

        Sizes translate to

Front: 100/90-19 front part number 30-0335 and

Rear: 120/90-17 rear part number 30-0342.

Best prices I've found are at Southwest Moto Tires.

They offer free shipping (ground delivery) with the purchase of two or more tires. All single tire orders are charged $14.00 for shipping.

        Front: $78.95

        Rear: $86.95

        Tubes cost $8.50 each.
