Yep, did something similiar on a Nighthawk...'cept homeade the rig, and didn't have the paint fail.

    Nighthawk Dent Pulling

I didn't have the paint pull off, thought about it, but figured it couldn't be any worse than dented...if it pulled, great. If not, gotta paint it anyway.

The paint on Battle Cruiser is a repaint, a good job,but a repaint none the less and just doesn't have the adhesion. I don't regret the glitch, the ding king did make the ding shallow enough to safely fill with Bondo. I'll update the Photos as I procede with the painting.

        Glue Stick

Hey Daniel, You used hot glue on the end of that 1 by didn't you? I've got a dent in the side of my SH tank that I'm working on and I though I'd try you method. I think I'll wait and see how the ding king works for Papa Gino. PO sealed the tank with the dent already there so I'm worried about the sealer coming loose when I pull the dent, If the paint comes off no big deal as its going to come off next winter anyway

Wingnut, I don't think you'd want to risk the Coating busting off in the tank and I am fairly sure the Ding King or the 1 By with Hot Glue will break it.

My strategy would be to find out if there is a way to have the coating removed, sand blast the tank and then do the ding. Probably more expense than it's worth...

congrats on what you DID do with that contraption. Ive seen it on TV alot of times and it looked like it was a bogus kind of rig.(cheap) like so much of that stuff on late night programing. Am really quite surprised it did work with a pretty good size dent

If the tank liner is a Kreem kit, it can be removed by using a couple of gallons of Acetone. I needed to remove the liner from SWMBO's FJ11, so I went to a couple of bike shops and asked there, but nobody knew how to remove it. I got the phone number for the manufacturer from the label on one of the Kreem kits, and I called and asked them. They said to use the Acetone. You'll need to let it set in one position for a while, and then move it into another position, and so forth, until it all dissolves, but it will work. The stuff is kind of flexible, so it shouldn't crack or come of the inside of the tank when working the dent out. I wouldn't try to remove it until after removing the dents. It may be ok. I was told that filling the tank, and then freezing it would pop a dent out, as water expands when it freezes.

You will pop out the dent, but i wouldn't. It will also deform the whole tank. How do you think you could control where the ice expands first. I tried removing a good size dent with air one time and luckly I found a good tank at a wrecking yard. the one I put air to looked pregnant. As to removing the kreem I have used MEK (methol ethol keytone) rinse with lacquer thinner to get the MEK / Kreem out.
There's always a way, figure it out.

I had the same suspicions about it too. I sat in Advance Auto with that thing in my hand for a long time and I had thought about it for months before hand. Like everyone else, I dreaded the idea of drilling holes or hanging a chunk of bondo on the side.

I still have some filler, but it is minimal.

My car body guy uses an old arc welder, sticks a rod on and then uses the rod to pull the dings.
