  • Advice for NOTANXS

Thinking about getting a liter bike of different make to use while I teardown the YammerHammer, and since there's a lot experiance here, thought I would tap into it. Preferance would be a Suzuki or Kaw, Hondas seem to go for a lot more around here. Mid 70's to mid 80's of course. Anything I should avoid? Looking for good handling and maybe a bit lighter then the XS. Chain drive only please. Of course it depends on what becomes available locally, but the more knowledge I can accrue beforehand the better.

This is (partially) why I have 2 XS1100's. In the winter I ride the E with the Pacifico fairing, bags and trunk. It shelters me from the storm. In winter I work on the LG.
In summer it's the LG with the cafe fairing and all breezy and light. Summer is when I work on the E.
Having 2 bikes the same cuts down on inventory. Can also 'borrow' parts from one bike while replacements are being shipped (like when I broke the clutch arm at the engine).

.. i dont know, i think that Norton Atas would be a really cool other ride..
i hear of some people here that have XS650s or XJ650 maxims as second bikes. i have had both and liked them very much, and they make the 1100 feel real good to get back on after riding them awhile, especially the xs650.. any KZ or GS would work but the KZs are rather popular and expensive also
.. just dont get any early v4 honda's, they all had some kind of oil to the cams problem or something that i dont remember or dont care about

Well the Norton is full summer of work to get going again. And don't know if I can make the switch back to right side shifting.

Occasionally see a Kaw triple around here, have always wanted one of those. When you smoke somebody with one of those, you do it literally.

Also considering an early Gold Wing, when they were still considered a performance bike.

Got an XJ650 for the swmbo, not much chance of getting any time on that.

            I'll check out the KZ's.

            Thanks

Another candidate is a Suzuki GS 1000, particularly if good handling is a criteria. These are getting harder to find, as a lot of these engines end up in dune buggies. By memory...impression is that it had both high performance, and brakes and handling to match.
