"Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney."

    ......Late Show with David Letterman

"I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, 'Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?'"

......The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

"You can understand why this lawyer fellow let his guard down, because if you're out hunting with a politician, you think, 'If I'm going to get it, it's going to be in the back.' "

........Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

They are talking about why it took so long for it to be reported that Cheney shot this guy??? He was embarrassed as &%% that's why!! He knew all the crap that he was going to have to take over it! lol

On second thought.... I don't like the way they portrayed our vice prez in that cartoon. I think we should riot, burn buildings, rape pilliage and plunder and kill, to show that we are a peaceful nation! *Rolling eyes

I don't think the guy who tipped off the press is going to be invited to hunt with the vice-president again. He's probably better off!

On the other hand the Earth Liberation Front should be supportive of the VP since he shot a member of the one species they hate. Actually the guy was a member of 2 species they hate, (1) humans and (2) the rich.

It is my understanding that the millionaire ranch-owning lawyer let the story out, then Cheney et al worked at spinning it into what it really is, a minor story. Quail come off low and stay low, so even more care needs to be taken in target selection. Those guys should have worked out fields of fire, and as old as they are, they should know better than taking any shot toward another hunter. It's one of those things that could happen any time, but usually doesn't. I imagine that #8 shot at 30 yards will get your attention, but is hardly deadly, although eyes and ears are potentially serious injuries. In that, they are both lucky.

They say Cheney didn't have the correct permits, would that be for quail or Lawyer?Oh wait, this is Texas, lawyers are open season, no bag limit. Stupid question.

Cheney did not have the correct permits, but it was what was given to him by the state of texas, so it was at their fault, not cheneys. So those charges have been dropped.

The Dallas/ Ft.Worth papers are saying that that the lady that owns the ranch reported it to a local newspaper. That's how it got out. As far as a license goes, Cheney had a legal, out of state license, but lacked the new 'upland game' stamp. It cost $7. He was issued a minor citation for hunting without the stamp, but was not charged, as the Texas game wardens have been issuing warning citations to everybody hunting with out the stamp to make them aware of the new requirements. No fines are being assesed. His office mailed a check for that amount to the State of Texas Fish and Game Dept. I read today that the victim, Wittington or Wellington, whichever , suffered a minor heart attack from some of the shot migrating into his heart.
I'm not defending Cheney, just telling y'all what I read.

No fool like an old fool. Sometimes hunters can get carried away. Whenever firing any firearm one must be aware of anyone or anything which could be hit unintentionally. When I lived in Napa Valley I had a problem during dove season when hunters would come up the Napa River bed and shoot up at doves above the banks which are 10 feet or more above the bed. There was a continual rain of falling shot in my yard which wasn't really dangerous since it was spent. I noticed as I watched from my veranda that for every dove that fell several boxes of ammo were fired so none of these "hunters" were all that adept.I think I only saw 2 kills the whole season. I was worried that someone from my household would be hit at close range while walking along the banks though so we all stayed away. After one of my dogs caught a load of birdshot while on the riverbank I changed my tune. After that as I heard the hunters approaching my property I would go down towards the river and fire a couple of rounds from my Winchester to get their attention. I would then tell them not to shoot in the direction of my property or I would reply in kind. One fellow thought I was being unreasonable so I explained that one of my dogs had been shot the day before and I would be appreciative if they would simply know what the hell they were shooting at before letting fly; that there were people, houses and livestock just beyond the banks that they couldn't see from the bottom. The Napa Valley is not sparsely populated, don't know what these jerks were thinking.

Valentine (my dog) quickly recovered though he carried most of that shot for the rest of his long and useful life.
