  • I need an opinion here please...

I need an opinion here....pretty please? Time for all you lurkers to speak up! (grin).

I have an opportunity here to issue the first three of the "Life Is a Road" series under one cover...a "Volume 1" so to speak.

So...the complete text of "Life Is a Road, the Soul Is a Motorcycle", "Life Is a Road, Get On It and Ride!", and Life Is a Road, Ride It Hard!", all in one book.

I'd probably add a bonus chapter or two....it would rack in at about 540 pages.

It would be under another glorius new cover (Hi Dan! Pleeeeeeeeessssseeeee?).

And, importantly, it would be significantly cheaper than buying all three books at once...

    Dan,

I am an as yet unpublished writer and I look at all the garbage in the genre I like (Military/Action) and look at my manuscript and go, "Huh?"

I like your work, go for it! I'll keep bangin away at the keyboard. I'm working effort number two, a historical novel from WWII. Want to honor those guys before they all dissapear.

        Dan,

I already have all three books so I would probably not buy a joined version. I didn't the seperate ones were that expensive anyway. Keep up the good work either way!

          What Sixtysix said.
If you benifit in any way, go for it. Which I think you might. One way or another. And save the chapters for the new book.

I'd say if it's not going to set you back any to do it, go for it. As I have yet to purchase your books, buying one instead of three would be easier for me. It'd also be easier to loan the compilation to friends, instead of handing over three separate books. Either way that's some good readin'!

                  Complete text in ONE volume??

Well, I gotta side with Chevy. I say NO! BUT, if it helps you out; well, MAYBE.
The Harry Potter series would not be such a hit if only one very large volume was ever published and no follow-ups, would it??
You got to keep your audience wanting more, and more and more and more and more and more and more!
You have a gift dude, [actually more than one] so personally, I would use it in "installments".
Your second book was only similar to the first in the fact that IT TOO was hard to put down once I started reading it. I don't care even if your second book DID have a pic of your bike setting in my driveway; it still was just a fine a "read" as the first. My only regret is that I haven't purchased your third book yet.
Like the Harry Potter series are to the Potter fans; you print a fourth and I will buy it. You print a fifth, and I will buy it, you print a sixth, and I will buy it.
Once again, like Chevy said, if it's to your advantage/profit; well maybe.
And like Strom said, save the new chapters for a new book.[PLEASE]
I'm trying not to be to lengthy in my comments, but on the other hand: Say I had a friend who has never read ANY of your books, then I can see myself buying Volume 1 as a very good gift. That would be an advantage. 'Just a somber thought about why "I" would buy Volume 1. [which I probably would buy it as a gift for another person!] Just save those new chapters for a new book!
I suppose my response is as clear as mud, huh??

Harry Potter series in one volume? It'd never sell because most people wouldn't be able to lift it. I can't WAIT for the next book to be released. When it gets near the release date I'll have to re-re-read all the books so I can transition to the new one. Its like crack.

A compilation would be a good gift idea.
                      I'd buy one.

                          Just a quick note...

The response has been very positive and it looks like I'm going through with the new edition/combined book. There's some exciting stuff happening on that front. I'll announce more on that later...

The individual volumes will still be available too.

And a fourth book is in progress...future books will be released in the individual installments as well...until there is enough to warrant "Volume 2".

As always, thanks for the comments, and I welcome more.

                            Book format.

                            Hi Dragonrider,
OK, 540 pages is still handleable in one volume.
600 and up seem to fall apart at the bindings.
Tolkein's original thought on The Lord of the Rings was 9 seperate volumes but the publishers printed it as a trilogy.
                            (Just checked my paperbacks:-
                            LOTR Vol 1, 529pp; Vol 2, 352pp; Vol 3, 440pp)
                            So go for it!
I may even be tempted to break my SF only purchasing rule and buy a copy rather than reading snippets on line.
                            About getting a job.
Being good at a thing and making a living at it don't always go together, Vincent Van Gogh for example.
Working for wages can suck but you gotta put bread on the table.
                            About the comic book.
The plotline has merit but I think that project would do better if you found an artist to co-author the graphics.

LOL! That's the politest way I've been told that my art sucks! Heh heh...

The problem with artists is that they generally will not stay with a project...especially one that doesn't pay. They also won't work on any kind of deadline.

The graphics on the site currently are very preliminary...basically proof of concept stuff and developing techniques to better translate it to the web. I should probably pull the link as it's not ready for display yet.

                              I've been practicing/learning a LOT but haven't posted (that's why it hasn't updated in a while).

Anyway, I've got a truly massive site revamp working...and it will start updating regularly soon...the story line is huge...and I care too much about the project to let go easily.

I'll really promote it when I get it updating on a regular schedule. After that, well, practice makes perfect (or better).

Till then, you'll just have to make do with the books (grin).
