    not any more

    Hi Geezer,
don't migrate north in the hopes of buying over the counter codeine. Maybe at one time but by prescription only these days.

I got as good result with aspirin as any prescription pain killer or anti-inflammatory. The only prob with the glucosamine/chondroitin is that it tends to be expensive.

Many years ago one could buy codeine over the counter in California but you had to sign for it and couldn't buy over a certain quantity in a 48 hour period. Had all the junkies going from drugstore to drugstore to buy 2 bottles of Robitussin AC here and 2 bottles there. Prescription only for a long time now. Try Mexico or El Salvador. When I was in El Salvador (early '80s)one could buy laudenum (opium derivative) over the counter. People there use it for everything from diarrhea to aches and pains.

That's too bad. Not that I was willing to move north but I'm always happy to visit. Back when I was last working in a bike dealership (HD and Kawie) back in 1989~90 a guy I know went up north ever other month or so and would bring me back some aspirin that has .1 grain of codeine plus some caffeine in them. I'd take 2 of them 2 or 3 times a day when I was working. They were great and just enough to get me through.

I just buy the Glucosamine 1000mg at Wally World. 200 pills... take 2 a day.. lasts over 3 months. Something like 15 or 16 bucks. 5 bucks a month seems dang cheap to me. If there was a way for me to explain how bad my left knee gets to aching.... no matter what position I have it in... I think 100 bucks a month would be cheap. I have never taken chondroitin... glucosamine has always worked for me. I have seen reports that it really doesn't do any good... that they get close to the same results with a placebo... great. If the placebo works for my aching knee... I'll pay 5 bucks a month for it too! All I know... is that when I forget to take it for a while.... my knee DANG sure reminds me about it. Then I kick myself, (With my right leg of course) because it takes at least a month to get the results back.

              relief time

how long did it take to see results when ya'll first started taking the glucosamine.

i did some reading on the subject on the net and picked up a combo of glucosamine/chondroitin/msm. i've never had any official diagnosed knee issues but they sound like rice krispies when i bend them. nothing like pissing the wife off by standing next to her in the bathroom and do a few knee bends. the crunching sound drives her nuts.

I got no result for about 2 months, then relief. Your results may vary. My knees still crack when I do knee bends but only for the first couple of times after that they're quiet. My doctor says it's gas bubbles being forced out of the joint fluid, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the joint. After a couple of bends there's no more gas left, same when you crack your knuckles, once they're cracked they won't pop again for awhile. What's msm?

Yeah, about the same time frame for me. Seems like it was a couple months. Stupid me thought maybe I was "All Better" now... and quit taking it a while back. I won't be doing that again.
I have never taken the chondroitin... haven't needed it... so couldn't comment on it. I just bought some more Glucosamine today from Wally World... was 11 dollars and something...12 bucks with tax for 1000mg x 200. I'm down to 4 bucks a month! lol.

                    msm = Methylsulfonylmethane

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring, organic, sulfur-containing compound related to another sulfur-containing substance, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). MSM is found in small amounts throughout nature and has been detected in small amounts in the blood and urine of humans.1

Animal studies have shown that sulfur from oral supplements of MSM is incorporated into body proteins.2 Animal studies have also reported that joints affected by osteoarthritis (OA) have lower sulfur content,3 and mice with arthritis given MSM, experience less joint deterioration.4 According to a preliminary report, a double-blind trial in people with OA found that MSM, in the amount of 2,250 mg per day, reduced pain after six weeks.5

A precursor of MSM is formed initially by ocean plankton and released into the atmosphere, where it interacts with ozone and sunlight and returns to earth as MSM in rainfall. MSM can be taken up by plants and incorporated into their structure, but no measurement of the MSM content of foods has been done. Supplements containing MSM are available.

While I've found that I can't quit taking the stuff, I have been able to reduce the amount I take by about half. If I notice pain symptoms returning I up my dosage to the full amount and the pain is gone within a day or so. I have found that some brands I've tried don't work, not surprising, there is absolutely no regulation of the supplements industry ever since congress caved in to industry lobbyists. Without taking a sample to a laboratory for analysis there is no way of knowing if those vitamin pills you take have any vitamins in them at all. All perfectly legal thanks to our wonderful elected officials. Flush twice, it's a long way to Washington, the cesspool of the nation.

how do you tell when your vitamins are working.

when you piss is four shades of yellow.

                            Pissing away your health?!

Had to jump in here! There are two main varieties of vitamins, water soluble and fat soluble. Vits B & C are Water Soluble, they are NOT obsorbed or stored by the body, whatever your body doesn't need at the time of taking them is then processed out and released with the waste products....hence the brighter yellow color of urine due to Xcess Vit C!

Vits A, D, & E are all FAT soluble, they are obsorbed by fat in the tissues, and can be stored in the body, therefore caution needs to be observed when taking these, too large a dose too frequently and you can develop TOXIC levels of them, and can cause some bad effects!

So....if you eat a normal diet with veggies, and milk products, then you can take the FULL multivitamins only every other day or so. You can take a B-C complex EVERY DAY if you like!
                            T.C.
                            T. C. Gresham

                            History shows again and again,
How nature points out the folly of men!

Is this what has become of us? A bunch of old men sitting around, pissing and moaning?

On a piss-related subject, if you have an old, uneditted King James Bible, II Kings 18:26-27 may prove enlightening.

Generic joint relief R/X. 12 pack of MGD, full tube of Simichrome, full charge in the cordless drill, last Sundays race recordings, 1/2 dozen rags. Slowly lower yourself to the garage floor and polish your XS. Simichrome shines it up real good, cordless drill keeps your arthritic hands from jamming up, 1/2 dozen rags for the places you can't get the drill, race recording give ya something to listen to, MGD kills all the aches and pains (till you have to get up from the floor)
