• New Bike/Now need group riding skills

On 1/21/06 bought a 79 XS1100SF, 9.5K, new tires, new Mayer saddle for $2050. On this eventful day I drove up to Napa, CA and walked up to the bike and was surprised to see a badge on the gas tank by Merriam Custom Cycles. Seller was originally asking $2400. The bike came with a cover, manual, Carb Sychronizers, Touring windshield, Cafe fairing, Rack/Sissy bar, and original tool set. Lots of Chrome. I originally started out looking for a parts bike and stumbled across this beauty on Craig's list. Seller gave no indication it was a custom bike on the ad.

I am now in search of a group ride where I can pickup some group riding skills. I live in the Bay area, Fremont, CA and look forward to meeting the Bay areas finest.

Gene,
E.Liberty and I try to get together for a ride on noce Sunday's. Last ride, we met in Santa Cruz, and went up highway 1 to Davenport, then south again to Bonniedoon Rd. and ended up in Felton, where we split off for the ride home. I may try one more ride this Sunday, and then I'll be out of town for a little while. No riding, just a long flight and rental cage.
If you want to meet in San Jose, we could do that, talk about the trics of group riding, and practice a little.
Send me a PM, or check my profile for my phone #.

For group riding skills you might look up your local chapter of Star Touring & Riding. This club is basically an owner's club for Yamaha Star cruiser bikes though membership is open to all brands. They are open to having guests ride with them and you will quickly learn the conventions of formation riding and make some new friends. They generally ride at a very leisurely pace so you'll have no trouble getting into the swing of things.

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung

I said it earlier in another thread ... and I'll say it again.

... You Californians sure know how to make a man jealous. The XS just doesn't seem to be as popular here in South Carolina as in other parts of the country (and Canada) ... I feel like a lone drifter at times.

Maybe I should just buy a dozen or so, and then sell them to local riders only, lol ... SWMBO would have a shyte-fit.

Draw a 50 mile circle w/Hayward at the center and it will encompass in the neighborhood of 6,000,000 people.

Really good/really bad and everything in between.

6,000,000 People...

See, I can't even imagine that many people. I grew up in the mountains. My entire high school was only about 600 (students and staff), and my graduating class was only 110 students. To try and imagine 6 million is just impossible.

Went to high school here. Had about 400 kids in school.
Youngest graduated last year
Now can't even recognize the school and it has over 4,000 kids in it.
