  • Shocks Question

I want to raise the rear a little and was wondering what other bikes would have a little (13-13.5") longer shocks that are heavy enough for our old tanks.

V-Max shocks... maybe some konis.... I know V-max has bout 15mm longer shocks. I have them installes, they are great for solo riding, but a bit soft for two-up. But then again, I'm a heavier set guy

I run progresive shocks on my '79. They are 13.5", made for a BMW, and do cause the bike to LEAN on the side stand. they came with the heavy springs, and work great. give me a little more lean angle in the corners. I don't remember the exact model #, but I know they are still easily available. Just get the heavy springs with the shocks, and your good.

        Another Question...

((If sitting on the bike)) my left shock has no bolt through the top hole. I got to looking at it, and I can plainly see where it has been sheered off. Now the question is ... what is that bolt/shaft/threaded rod connected to? What do I need to replace so I will be able to bolt down the top of my left rear shock???

        Any help would be fan-tab-ulous.

          bolt/shaft/threaded rod connected to
          yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx

if link above works, diagram shows 78 frame (rear shock mounts same as my 80G. No separate part# for stud so it is probably welded in place.

May need to grind/cut remnant of old stud out and weld in a new one.
