  • Coincidence???

Last month DriverRay posted message about a few XS's on craigslist.
I bought one (missing alot parts) but was a day late in getting the other.

Recently on craigslist a guy selling just the parts the one I bought is missing.

Thought it was same guy, but got an email this morning and the guy say's he dosn't remember selling me a bike

What are the odds that one month after you get a bike, someone else just happens to have the exact parts you need.

Hey Sherlock, I mean prometheus578, what do you think???

You should be able to tell if the person is the same, either by email or his name. It does sound kinda fishy, but I guess stranger things have happened before.

    Just my 2 cents...

either by email or his name
On craigslist you reply to an add if no number etc. posted and it gets routed through their server, which then forwards message to seller. Can stay anonymous till end.

"Mr. Douglass... have I got a deal for you!"

Hey Sherlock, I mean prometheus578, what do you think???
Sounds like "Green Acres" syndrome. Mr Haney sells them the farm(after removing the bathtub, sink and all the fixtures), then convienently shows up the next day to sell them "a few items" that they 'might' need around the house.

What a neat scam... wish I'd thought of it!

            ...talking about this one:

            Nope...

            Middle of last month
            I bought a 80LG, (minus ALL electrical/side covers/gauges etc.....)
Paid only $100.00, so if there trying a "Green Acres" they went to alot of trouble for nothing. Got the title but have been unsure if bike is worth a restore or just for parts.

Last week found an add for a box of parts for a 80 MNS which is supposed to have just the parts I need for the 80LG

Thought it was same guy, but appeanantly not. Guy I contacted said he doesn't remember selling me a bike, in his reply he has not given me a number to call or a method of contact other than on the computer.

Now I'm thinking that maybe the bike I got might have been his and either he sold it "as is" or someone may have "rolled off" with it

Not in no big hurry so can wait till he gets around to either selling me the parts or if he lost the bike to let me or the cops know.

              PS

Was an 80G on craigslist in SF for $650.00
              don't know if still there.

Sever other XS1100's but price/problems didn't seem to make for a very good deal.

                coincidence or conspiracy?

Well I could see if the guy decided to part out and someone bought a box of the parts and later decided to sell them for one reason or another after you had bought the bike missing the parts. Or the guy started to tear the bike down and somehow the box of parts got separated from the bike for whatever reason. He sells you the bike not knowing where he stashed the box of parts. Later he finds the parts and sells those too. Either of these scenarios is kind of hard to imagine happening in real life but stranger stuff has happened. The guy doesn't remember selling a bike to you? Seems if I sold a bike to someone I'd know it or if not I could say with certainty that I hadn't. But to not remember selling one to you, I don't know unless the guy sells so many bikes all the time that he can't recall the individual transactions. Also unlikely. Very weird!

                  Yea it's weird

From the guy 1/15/2005, 11:29 PM
I dont remember selling you a bike, but I still have a box of electricle parts for an xs1100 if you are interested
So if he wants to sell parts why not let me know how to contact him?

I can find the place I picked up the bike when I bought it.
Might just go by there and see if the guy I got it from knows anything

                  Don't think I'll go alone

Wonder if he/they check out this site
