A 1981 Yamaha xs1100 midnight special will be arriving in approx 3-4 weeks in my shop. It is destined to be parted out. Details known so far. 29,000 miles, runs good, leaking fork seal, stuck front caliper, dead battery. Supposed to have the STOCK factory exhaust on it in very good condition.Carbs were recently serviced, factory airbox, seat pan is good, seat cover is non factory.one sidecover is cracked, has a factory luggage/sissybar,never crashed supposed to have had proper dealer service, gold chrome is rated as 4 out of 10 for overall condition.supposed to have all gauges working, not missing any parts and previous owner is assuring me it runs just fine. Bought himself a new davidson and wants to sell. This is just a heads up in case anyone would be interested in some of these parts. Will let everyone know when it arrives. thanx andreas

Sad to see a decent bike parted-out. Business is business though. Sounds like the same condition as my MNS only mine has more miles (50,000).Pat Kelly

andreas,
I'd definitely be interested in some parts ... like the factory luggage/sissybar, left side cover, tank with emblems, gold headlight trim ring, instrument cluster, and possibly more, but I'll stop now since I'd much rather see this bike be restored than parted.

Why does it need to be parted out? Why couldn't you sell it so it could be brought back to life? What would you want for the whole bike?DEW

I really put some effort into getting this bike. This winter I heard someone had one and it was going to be traded in at a Yamaha dealer on a new bike. I made several calls to owner and was pretty sure we had a deal. He was supposed to call me when he was going to bring it to me. He never called and I did follow up by calling him. He said and I quote " yeah should have got back to you I just found it easier to let it go to the bike wrecker, sorry" Well sounded like a pretty decent bike. Hate to see them end up useless in a outside wrecking yard. Good parts are hard to find. andreas

you know the person that buys the part loves his xs, by transplanting an organ here and there, the part that was sacraficed from the bike; lives on, ticking away on some beast terrorizing all the new homogenous excuses for bikes."a good man knows his limitations" dirty harry
