  • Young Rider

I was going through some old pictures earlier when I ran across this. My youngest son, who was about 18 months old, wanted to start ridding early. This was taken in 1980 and it’s my ’79, 750 triple. The next summer I traded it in on a XJ110J. That’s when he really started riding. We bought the smallest helmet we could find and he would sit in front of me with his legs between mine and the tank and my wife behind me with her hands at his sides. The funniest thing was that as much as he liked to play on the bikes, and want to go riding, once we got going, he would lay his head down on the tank and sleep till we got where we were going. He did turn into a good rider though. We trusted him and his riding ability enough that when he was 15 we bought him a ’82 750 maxim and with me on my 1100, took a 4000 mile trip through the southwest.
