  • The Wet Driveway Principle (or is it?)

    (snip)
"...OMG! What the HELL is that? Is that a cloud? It is! It is! A cloud! Agggghhh! Issue a winter storm warning! Buy batteries! Boil some water! Hide the children!"

    But I digress...again...

Living on the coast, the driveway is wet most mornings. I ride anyway, as my "daily ride" is my only running vehicle, at the moment.
My local weatherman is GOOD, and I can trust what he say's. I've seen him predict rain north of one town, and he was within 1 mile of his prdiction!

I commuted from San Jose to Scotts Valley down highway 17 (nice and curvy) every day for 5 months. Everytime there was the least bit of moisture there was a wreck. It was like the built the road out of snail snott and no one would slow down so they'd hit the guard rail and take 3 other cars with them. Never could convince myself to try riding it. Too many idiots out there...I cut that contract short, felt like I was going to die on that road.

I took my driving lessons on 17. I've been driving it for more years than I like to count. I do travel early, as I'm at work at 7:00am in San Jose. The trip back is the only one that I need to watch out, as there are more idiots out in the afternoon. For the most part, I still just ride in the "slow" lane, as it's faster than the "fast" lane.

yeah, once a week in the evening there was a old pickup truck pulling a homemade trailer that was at least 6" wider than the lane with 2 track only sportbikes on them going down the fast lane 5mph under the speed limit. You had to pick your opening and squeeze by.

Seems they like wreck on the way up/or down on the San Jose side and do it regularly wet or dry, but guaranteed its going to happen when it's wet now.

When going that way I like to cut off near the top and go down to Capitola (gets heavy there now too)
