"After all, California Government: for the Government, by the Government, all else get in a line.

Golden state moto: anything for a buck!"

THIS is why I call this state "Can'tAffordYa"
I'm working twice as much for half as much as I did 10-15 yrs ago, with tax increases, cost of living, etc... I've been trying for a couple of years to talk the wife into moving to another state, but if the grass LOOKS 'greener on the other side of the hill' it's usually just 'fresh paint'

Western Nevada ain't bad if you like desert. If I hadn't come to Lake County that's probably where I'd be.

Whew! It's even worse than I thought over there Gaffer. Big Brother is watching! This should be a warning to those stateside to pay close attention to what your politicians are doing!

I recently read in Bike that the claim that the speed cameras reduce accidents is a total crock. Police in the UK make that claim all the time to justify the cameras' presence but the accident statistics collected by the very same police show exactly the opposite! Would the police actually lie to the public? Now why on earth would they do that? Could it possibly be that they get a percentage of the fines collected in their districts? Makes one wonder.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

Over $100,000.00 per year in fines just in CA.
This does not include parking fines.
Can get fined/arrested for putting a quarter in someone else’s parking meter

What needs to be done???

Have everybody pay their taxes like I do. Once per month turn in collected sales tax, Quarter income taxes, yearly property taxes, Pay additional tax per employee for "emergency services", pay yearly tax for alarm system (and pay extra should it go off), pay fees for tires sold, compressed gas bottles, pallet racks(over 15'), new monitor disposal tax, recycling taxes. Not to count the taxes to be paid for every city you work/sell in. I know I missing a bunch more, (have accounting/payroll company because can't trust EDD)

Would be a revolt if not for withholding etc...

Wouldn't be so bad if gov. actually accomplished something. But gov. never solves a single problem. If they did then they wouldn't be able to keep on raising taxes. Money and the courts are their power.

DON'T POST POLITICAL ****. Got to deal with it at work toooo much

back to XS's please

The Orwellian nightmare

I used to own my own business so I understand your frustration mro but sorry, when political s*** affects when, where and how I ride my XS and how much it costs me to do it then I figure it's fair game for this forum.

It's not just the outrageous costs...our liberties, expectation of privacy and even our very way of life are being eroded. What has happened to our counterparts in the UK should make every American motorcyclist sit up and take notice. With the government coming from the position that driving is a priveledge, not a right, then they could conceivably just outlaw motorcycles altogether on the assumption that no one really needs to ride a motorcycle and doggone it they're dangerous anyway, aren't they? Or they could just mandate that all vehicles have a global positioning device on board so they can monitor your speed and location at all times. You shouldn't really mind much though, after all you don't speed or engage in any illegal activities do you? If you're on the up and up, why should you mind if the government knows your whereabouts? After all, it's for everyone's own good. Now doesn't that make you feel better.

The situation in Great Britain didn't happen overnight, it happened in small increments: a little petty regulation here, a regulation there; another bureaucracy formed here, another there; and all the while the stoic British people are taking all these small indignities without complaining very much, if at all, until eventually you have the almost nightmarish situation they find themselves in today. Once these things happen they can't be reversed short of a revolution, when was the last time a government official gave up power? We can't stick our heads in the sand and let it happen here or we might as well still be subjects of the British Crown. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

OK I'll shut up now.

The sad thing is that the strange unblinking weirdos who dream up all these B.S. regulations have never had warm blood in their veins - they simply cannot comprehend why anyone would possibly WANT to ride a motorcycle.

Your riding "privelege"

Yep pggg,

For examples of bureaucracy run amok one only has to look at Germany under the Nazis or Soviet Communism to see the horrors that can be wrought by these bureaucratic automatons. I think that George Orwell's "1984" and Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" should be required reading in all schools.

Forgot to mention if you got no log book / pinkslip

we have to pay $40.00 odd dollars for one

let it run out of road fund license $160.00 fine

have to declare it is off the road if no road fund

any bike off the road will soon be subject to a tax i have heard!!

Any way as for just sitting back and taking it ,there are groups that fight this stuff

allot of stuff is crime prevention and safety etc so not a bad thing

we are only tiny as a country especially if you look at it from just England

we have got lots of bikes here and we could make a stand for ourselves

allot of people are anti bikes here so its a hard shout

got to put up with what they say if you want to ride one what can you do??

forgot we got toll roads springing up as well !!!

only things we got on our side is bikes ease parking troubles

and conjestion and road damage

look at the fox hunting in this country (dont agree with it myself)

farmers have to protect thier livestock tho and some foxes are running around in a terrible state and are suffering so need something

when they tried to ban that there was a revolt

and our poll tax (charged everyone over 18) a tax of i think $400.00 approx for living in a house ,garbage collection ,police ,and amenities and things like that and that was 10 years ago ,each and every person in a house over 18

was a lot of money back then

we turned that round

now we pay $2,000.00 a year probably for the whole house

+ depending on size of property and area etc that you live in

They do try to screw us for what they can but overstep it and there will be war beleive me !!!
Don't put all yer eggs into one basket ,,,case

I daresay gaffer if Britain didn't have such a high percentage of committed riders and it didn't make so much sense on the economic end your government probably would have outlawed bikes by now in the interest of "public safety".

I notice from the news media that now that Great Britain has succeeded in banning private gun ownership in the interest of public safety your police have found it increasingly necessary to arm themselves with guns in order to deal with a now well-armed criminal population and the incidence of gun violence has actually gone up. As you have illustrated about the fox hunting, there are always unintended consequences beyond the intent envisioned by the framers of new laws. Here in California bears and mountain lions have been protected from hunting (Oh how can you kill these noble creatures?) and now we have a serious problem with bears rummaging garbage bins adjacent suburban homes and mountain lions eating pet dogs and house cats in the same suburban neighborhoods as well as attacking and/or eating the occasional child or jogger. Although we have foxes here they have not become near the problem to farmers and ranchers that coyotes have. Coyotes, unlike foxes, are a pack animal and they have recently begun roaming the streets of US cities which shows that there needs to be some sort of serious abatement.
