  • Finally... the FJ1100 lives again!

After almost a year of waiting for one reason or another... something about your significant other almost being killed tends to put things on hold... my FJ is back on the road with a shiny new paint job and no hesitation (the original reason it went under the knife to begin with).
Here are a few picks of my pride and joy... not bad for my first paint job... at least... I think it looks pretty good.

A HUGE thanks to my more than wonderful (and alive) husband, John... without whom this would have never been possible. He coached me along through the entire process of disassembly, engine work, miscellaneous fixes and reassembly... as well as a few pointers for spraying the paint. More kudos to him for not taking over the project... because I know it had to be difficult at times.

          Hey Wildkat,

Awesome job!! BTW, I editted your post, don't know why you wanted to use the thumbnails, cause your original photos are just the right size for posting without sidescrolling!? So...this way folks can see them in their full sized glory!!

Glad John didn't help you much with it, or it probably wouldn't have turned out as nice!

Glad you guys will be able to go riding together again once the weather cooperates! Now, don't go getting John into any races with that thing, we know what happened last time he tried to show off!! Besides, we ALL love a FAST WOMAN!!

            Thanks guys!

I couldn't be happier with things... I appreciate your comments! and thanks TC for resizing the pics!

It will be strange riding over the tank again after riding the 81XS... I have to admit I have grown rather fond of kicking back against the backrest and putting my feet up on the highway pegs... XS is definitely addictive.
I told John the next project may just be getting the 81 in good looking shape again... paint scheme will be a little more basic though.

We actually have some decent weather in the forecast so hopefully some rides before winter really hits... no racing though... well... not much.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Great paint job Wildkat. Looks like I should take some pointers from you. Already picked up the "wet sanding" technique from your hubby. Maybe with a little help, I might be able to spray a halfway respectable paint job on mine this winter.

Again, the bike looks great. Mad props on a job well done.

Good, can see it better, now. Love the way the colors mimic the frame and engine tones.
What's with all those acorns and stuff drawn on the driveway. The only chalk marks on my driveway are the "body outlines" that the police drew last week. (Hhmm.. probably shouldn't have admitting to that)

They go about 150 mph. Oh, you mean the cost? I'd give about about $1500-$1700 for a nice one. They're kinda of a bitch to work on though. No access to anything on the motor without taking the tank and most of the plastic off, and even then it's tight. SWMBO has blown my XS away a couple of times. I was doing 130 both times and she just blew past me like my ignition was turned off.

                              Hey Kathy,
GRRRREAT job on the paint. John told me the other day what you had done, but he really held back. Was that you or John at the school today. Surely you don't trust him to ride that beautiful machine.
