The wire Hook measurments

I just picked up a 1978 XS 1100 E and it is missing the wire hook for changing the rear tire. Can anyone please measure it and shoot me some pictures so that I can make one for my bike. I would really appreciate it. I had a 78 XS1100 11 years ago.

Is that a wire thing with some hooks on the ends? I recall seeing one in my pile. What do you hook it to on the bike? I have had 10 rear tires on and never used a hook.

I'll check my pile and see if I can find it.

Yes it is a cable with hooks on it. One side, the Loop, hooks onto the bottom of the left shock bolt, then one hook goes on the left side of the frame, across to the other side of the frame and then you use a bar and hook it onto the hook near the rear axel. It holds the swing arm up and makes it easier to change the tire.
If you find it let me know and if you do not need it give me a price and I will see what I can do.

I found one in my pile, but I am not sure if it is the one that came with my standard or it is from the pile of Special parts I have.

Only you and I on this thread, so we probably won't get much of a response, but is the Special and the Standard the same?

I think the Special has a different type of hook. I have the cable assy on my Standard. My MN Spec has a a stiff wire with a hook on both ends. Overall length about 6" or so.

For future posterity, that cable in the photo is coiled on a 8 1/2" x 11" manilla folder. End to end it is about 32" long.

I believe the Special's hook is intended to hold the brake caliper out of the way when removing the rear wheel. Think I'll be using it soon as my rear tire is squared-off and nearly bald. (Don't have my owner's manual handy so I'm not for certain sure.) The Special's mufflers are short so there's no need to hold the swingarm up to get at the axle nut and axle.

Thanks for being so helpful. I am an Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator and plan to hook up a radio on my XS Eleven. I have been on disability for quite a few years and too keep busy I have people donate their old computer parts. I put systems together and give them away to kids and others. I even include the software so they can get their HAM license. I think I gave away 14 systems last year and I think 6 so far this year.
