    Harley dressers usually have crash bars front and rear which protects the rider somewhat and also the bike and bags. Engine guards on a bike like an XS11 will maybe save your engine cases but they won't save you like mro says. I wear steel-toed boots too. I knew a guy many years ago who got his leg caught under the case guard on his CB750 when he went down, broke his leg in 2 places.
