  • A Newbie, Again

    Hi.
I'm brand new here. You guys seem friendly so I thought I'd post this. If it gets too long, rambling and incoherent for you, I will understand if you tune out.

Anyway, I have not ridden anything in 12 yrs. But I have just purchased a '79 XS 11 Special and I am soooooo psyched to get back into it. Just giddy at the thought. It's very similar to my last bike, a '78 Maxim 750.

We have super roads here for riding too. Especially if ya like bugs.

I found you guys cuz I was looking for carb rebuild kits. I'm surprised, pleasantly so, at the vloume of interest & support out there for this old baby. Too cool. I guess people like these wheels..........

Well anyway, I will mostly keep quiet and just read: I have a LOT to catch up on and don't know Jack so far. Luckily, I work with some biker dudes who are in the know and are gonna help me out.

So, if you're ever in the Lake Placid area and ya see some homely hombre tooling around on an old black 11 Special, (dressed to kill no doubt!) It just may be me.
    Good Riding,,,,

      Yeah... at first."
No, seriously...glad you could make it.
Carb kits are a waste of money. Everything's cleanable. All you really need are new float needles (you can use chrome polish and Q tips to clean and smooth the seat area), and new float bowl gaskets. Millions of tips here on cleaning carbs.

Welcome to the family Alpine. Take it from someone who knows, I joined this site knowing nothing about bikes, and in the few months I've been a member, I've learned loads from the cats. I've yet to run into a problem they haven't or couldn't answer. Can't say that about too many other things.

Hey thanks a bunch folks, it's good to be here for sure.

Only problem so far is I see no forum for dealing with this white stuff flying outside my window! Winters are always long up here but especially so this year with my new wheels out in the shed.

I wonder how many times I'll carry the battery out and just start that puppy up.
              VRRROOOOOOOMMMMM

              Think Spring?

Thanks again for the welcome, you guys are making me a little smarter evrytime I read a few posts. I'm sure I'll be dangerous soon, 'eh?

Next spring a new av with my shiny Special in front of some mountains. Ooooh, gonna be niiiiiice!
