    Bike history

Is it possible to track the history of a bike in the USA? Mine is a US import, originally a XS1100SF, that has been changed over the years. At some stage in it's history the frame has been plastic coated, the carbs changed and a few other things. I would like to find out a bit more about it. Up until a few years ago the UK bike registration documents (log book) listed the previous owners, but they have been removed now, I suspect this is due to data protection legislation. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks

That’s a tough call. The states have jurisdiction over this stuff. From your perspective, it’s like 50 countries.

I am currently trying to title a bike in Florida that was originally bought in California. Before the Fl DMV starts any investigation on it they want to physically see the bike and read the vin # off the frame. Not just a picture
of the frame or just any paperwork having any information from prior owners in CA. This is probably to check whether it is a stolen bike or has a lien on it.
What I'm trying to say that it that at least in FL they want to see the bike before they start looking for whatever information you are requesting. Maybe other states don't ??
      Good luck with the process.
