  • crashed the black hammer

As I was leaving the railroad museum where I am a volunteer, I forgot about the chain we put across the driveway. I used way to much front brake for a dirt road, locked up the wheel and down I went. First point of impact was my elbow then the back of my head. I was wearing my new Icon merc jacket with armour in the elbows shoulders and back this did a great job no damage to the elbow or back just some sore ribs. Same for the old head great protection (not even a headache) from my Shoei rf1000. Great products. The bike didn't get off so easy, Broke the linkage for the rear brake and the windshield off of the fairing. I can fix the brake but I will need a new windshield. It is a 1980 xs11G with a factory fairing by vetter(windjammer)

          is it me?

or is the XS a little "top heavy" ??

I've only put about 4,000 miles of riding the XS (have over 100,000 over the years on others)

low ending this scooter seems to be pretty easy.

sounds you have some good gear.

              Gate beats chain

Years ago I got lost. Lotsa narrow roads, nary a signpost in sight.
Look for a wider road, right? Bound to lead to a road major enough that it might have a signpost. Or better yet, a pub?
And there it was, big wide sweeping blacktop curve leading off my narrow little road. Cranked the bike over, downshifted, I'm going home. Except it's some wealthy bastard's private driveway. With a big old gate across it just out of my sight. Skidded to a stop on the footpeg, the bar end and my left elbow. Fascinating concentric rings of jacket, sweater, shirt, skin and meat.
So, Railroad, now we both know. Look where you are going, right?

Glad your ok, and who needs a chain across a driveway anyway.

I guess it could keep those no-driving people from turning around in you driveway,

I'm sure someone on here may have a old windshield for your fairing, with alittle luck it will be just the right one and cheap

Those low speed get-offs can be hell!! Glad to hear your gear did there job. Winshield is no biggie, you can still buy the from Vetter, (big $$$), JC Whitney, (not so big $$) or get some lexan and cut your own. I have made 3 or 4 of them with no problems. You can even go "tinted" for that race look.
