Just curious to see if there are any VW dune buggy owners, here? I'm looking at buying a street legal one, and making it a tinkering project.

Howdy Ian,,,,out here in San DIego still tons of buggies running around, also the VW Thing is popular for us surfers. I had A Thing,,,cool but way underpowered and no way to lock stuff up so I sold it as highway speed here is a constant 75 and the Thing topped out at 60, but fun on the coast highway. There are lots of companies that sell the buggy bodies for install on old vw beetle frames, and other cars also......or just buy one done already and save the headaches. The original Meyers Manx buggies designed here are collectors items and way expensive but the common vw bug buggies are still pretty cheap. Anway,,,,,Craigslist, FacebookMarketplace or Offerup should yield a lot for sale...good luck, Mike in San Diego and Pa

I took one for a ride. Walked away. All noise.

This is an off road buggy I built in the late '90's I've sold it a few years back. If your interested The Shop Talk Forums has all the info you'll need. Also The Samba.com is another site for VW madness.

I have been looking for years for a VW powered BMW motorcycle. But not a trike. I won the auction on a sidecar rig years back but the seller contacted me and stated that "they" blew the fragile /2 BMW transmission. This was after I won the eBay auction. I believe they were doing hole shots with it and they even cracked the case. I refused to take possession of the bike and eBay had to intervene. I wish the A-hole seller hadn't ruined the deal with unethical games. Too much of that these days.

That's the allure of it, take a stripped down piece of basic transportation and strip it down even further, comfort isn't even a secondary concern!
