There was a cool pic on the "Plus2" list showing why there was no reported looting of neighborhoods following Hurricaine Rita.
Had a group of "Bubba's" (not stereotyping anyone ) standing around a hand-painted sign (sheet of plywood) holding various rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers. The sign said:
"Drunks with guns, you loot we shoot"
I don't own any guns either .

There's more than enough evidense floating around to make me a person of interest if the feds ever went looking for gun owners, so I don't hide the fact. I do agree with you about lisitng what I have.

However I do talk about guns and reloading. A little parnoia will go a long way.

I totally agree with Geezer on this ... I don't mind saying I own a gun, as it is my Constitutional right to do so ... however, I'm not one to advertise what I own to any specific degree or where they may be located. Since SWMBO and I have in an apartment with our 3 year old, I don't keep them around where he could stumble across them even by accident.

I will mention one gun specifically however, only because of the topic of reloading. I have a very very old .25 'coon rifle that I cannot find ammo for. The haven't sold it in years, and I haven't been able to find any gunsmith or loader who could make me some rounds for it. It hangs above the fireplace as an antique ... not as a firearm.

I agree with prometheus. I was on the battalion rifle team, and still do some target shooting. As the great state of Kalifornia has closed most of the good ranges, I now use a Gold cup at the few that are left. I do have a target rifle that my grandfather used, but I have no ranges I can shoot it on.

While I do agree that maybe I'm being a bit too forward about what I own, It dosent bother me.

I've filled out a yellow sheet of paper on every gun I've bought. I'm sure most of you have seen one - Form 4473 Firearms Transfer Record. I don't believe for one minute those are destroyed after 90 days, as they are supposed to be. I've also passed an insta-check on every weapon I've bought. I am a carry permit holder, as well. In addition, I am awaiting my FFL C&R license. Big brother already knows everything he wants to know about me, and I could care less.

Let him try to come and take them. I have no problem stating EXACTLY how many I'll take with me before they get them. But then, I'm betting it'll never happen in my lifetime, and I contribute to the organizations that help to prevent it from happening. I also do what I can to promote positive gun awareness in general. I have converted more than a few people who were very anti-gun based solely on the bull**** they're fed by the anti-gunners. A little knowledge can go a long way to educate the uninformed. The anti-gunners prey on fear. I know several women now who I have taught to shoot that are no longer afraid of guns. They no longer think "guns are evil" and WILL defend themselves if or when the the need arises.

I've found than even with such a political split as we have in this country right now, there are still far more that are not willing to give up their freedom enough to institue a ban than are. Many are sitting on the fence because of their lack of experience with firearms, and it's that fear of the unknown that the anti's prey on. Just like the anti's methods, it's a battle that can be won one person at a time.

I could never choose to live in a place that so blatantly deprives people of their rights. The south has it's own issues, but guns aren't nearly as much of one here as in other, socialist-ridden areas of the country. Areas that could fall off into the ocean for all I care. Barrett Rifles, a TN company, will no longer sell or service any of their rifles for any gevernment agency in California. They make .50 caliber rifles that are in demand in every swat team in the country. It would give me a woody to see other firearm manufacturers follow suit.



Geezer, the XD dosent have removable sidepanels, it's a polymer frame, if im not mistaken. I've never shot one, but have held a loaded one, and it had the same size, heft and balance as a 9mm, but in that potent .45. Springfield, like CZ, has great ergonomics. Ballistically, it's exactly the same as the good ol' .45 ACP. Suffice to say, I know many that are like you on it. It's new, unproven, etc. But for my smaller hands, it turns a big lumbering .45 into something I'd feel much more confident shooting in general. That said, I'd still love to get a Commander style 1911, too. Or pehaps one of those crazy expensive Kimber CDP.45 shorty carry pistols. Hell, I want all three!

I remember when the FN57's were still banned in this country. Small caliber, high velocity. Pretty nifty. The whole reason they were banned was the ammunition, which was initially only produced with a steel ogive built into the bullet. The pistol was made as a companion arm to their P-90 submachine gun, which uses the same ammo. Would penetrate medium level body armor. Normal bullets were made for it, but once again, the anti's ran with it, calling it a "cop-killer" and hyping it up until it got banned, before it was ever even imported into the country. As far as energy delivered to target, it's not much more spectacular than a hot 9mm. Much smaller package though. Luckily, their nonsense has been reversed.

Say what you will about California, insofar as I'm aware we don't as yet have any locality that has banned guns outright like New York City and Washington, DC. I like to think there are enough sensible people left in this state to keep that from happening. Most of California is rural and guns are part of the culture just like the middle of the country. Of course we do have some stupid pols who like to pass legislation banning certain weapons just because they look scary to them, not because they're a problem. An example of hipocrisy at it's worse is Senator Feinstein who carries but wants to keep others from doing so.

That is true. I tend to pick on them more because that's where the biggest concentration of anti-gun propaganda comes from. Funny how few of them live in the cities they've managed to get them banned in.

I know it's twisted and sick and I shouldn't say it (like that'll stop me) but I sure wish someone would beat the living **** out of Feinstein with a baseball bat. Let her try to ban those, the raggedy old whore.



Looks like I may have to fly to Cali next week. (SF area, I think) I won't be able to take my gun It will be lonely, I'm sure. Maybe I'll rub the trigger some when I get home

Well Wes, I lived in San Francisco from 1963 until 1995. When I moved there it was very liveable, civilized and affordable and my favorite city on the planet. You could practically eat off the sidewalks. When I left it was ridiculously expensive and filthy with almost no civic pride left. I still love to visit once in awhile but I wouldn't live there if I was paid to.

i was originally interested in the p90, but they are waitin too long on introducing the civvy model. then i found out about the 57 and it uses the same ammo. although il almost never be able to use, get, or carry the p90 in bklyn. everybody and their mother owns a 9 so i like to be different
