  • On the Road...Again!

Today was the day! Twilite Special is back! I spent most of the afternoon double checking all of the fasteners, and tieing up loose ends. I took my first 'hot laps' on it tonight. It was just around the block a couple of times, but it sure felt good. I could feel a brake hanging up a little when I backed it out to the street, and the L/F rotor was hot to the touch when I parked it. The other two felt cool. After it had sat for about 15 minutes, I went to push it into the garage, and it rolled fairly easy, like the sticking caliper had freed up after it cooled some. I'll find out more tomorrow, when I give it another 'shake down cruise'. I have a borrowed seat from an 80SG, and it feels quite different than the SF seat that had on there before. It feels higher off the ground. I did replace the XJ11 shocks with some from an MNS, and I noticed that it seems to lean more when it's on the side stand. I don't have a new windshield on it yet, and that wind in my face feels strange. I haven't ridden without one in many years. I'll be ordering my new Plexifairing from JC Whitney soon. Anyway, We're Back, and it feels good!

      Hey John,

That's awesome, and congrats!!!! Now as to your sticking front caliper, I'd take it apart and check the spooge hole. Also check the caliper slides to make sure it's moving sideways like it should!? And that strange feeling in your face is FREEDOM, enjoy it while you can!!

            The Shakedown Cruise

After spending a couple of hours cleaning, polishing and checking the front brakes, I finally took it out for a ride. SWMBO was riding shotgun on Foster Child, just in case mine had any problems, I could still get home. Took some side streets to the gas station, and filled both bikes. Headed to the freeway to see how well it would do at highway speeds. It was steady as a rock, and ran just as good as it did before. Did a couple of high speed blasts. I was happy. Did a couple of errands, and then headed home, as SWMBO had to teach an some after school classes this afternoon. I headed back out shortly after she left, and took a nice lesiurely ride on some back roads to Ft. Worth, and back. A total of 42 miles, and no problems what so ever. It was a great feeling riding it again. I had been riding Foster Child, but it just wasn't the same. I don't have the digital camera with me, so I couldn't put up any pics today, but I'll try to get some up tomorrow evening. It may never look this clean and shiny again, so I'd better get some pics of it soon. Road grime can accumulate quickly...

                        Thanks Guys

I appreciate all the support and well wishes. It seems like it has been a very long time since the accident. It has been a major emotional accomplishent for me. Hopefully, I will be able to withstand some extended time in the saddle, and attend another rally. I'm still kinda sensitive there. Can't sit for extended periods of time yet.
Bruce, Thank you very much for the seat offer. It should get here soon. I will let you know when I get it. Please let me know how much the shipping was. I would like to at least pay you for that. You have been more than generous.
