Whoooooooeeeeee! That's some really fun stuff, my kind of road. Now you've done it, I have to put off anything I was going to do today, go down to my garage, leather up and break out a bike as soon as I'm logged off. Think I'll ride over Cobb Mtn. on 175 to Middletown and back up Big Canyon Road. Or will it be the Hopland Grade? Guess I'll just let the bike decide.
Here's a few from my pic library:
The sign says it all.
The mountains above Malibu where I learned to ride back in 1958.
Big Canyon near my present home.
All of these images are from the www.pashnit.com site. Check it out.

Nice road on the video.... Reminds me of a road towards an almost near-by race track. Very fast curves, nice surface (crazy truck drivers tho).
These guys should work on passing other motorists. Once 3 motorcycle cops were passing a truck in front of me like that. The 1st one passed OK, 2nd one... dunno... maybe.... but the 3rd one didnt see sh!t and passed anyway. When we stopped for coffe I yelled at them for 5 minutes since I just cleaned my bike and I don't want to clean some stupid cops blood off the front. I didn't really care if I got arrested. Then we had a nice cup of coffee, during which they expertly agreed that my XS was about 1994 vintage.

(stole that one from I-dont-know-who)
TopCat has a video he took of his trip down to The Dragon in 2004. One segment is of the Deals Gap run. I'd probably be running just a little bit faster than the the touring bikes these guys blasted by. One thing I have figured out is that you have to ride at your own pace. It's nice to get some experience in the twisties to find what you are capable of doing, but high speed runs through places you have never been before are likely to get you hurt.

Just re-watched that video again, got it saved! Agree about the passes, especially the camera bike. Ducati Tim and I were on State 29 last year and just over the Napa Co. line we came up on an accident that had just happened. A Harley coming down off the mountain had passed in a similar spot and went head-on into an old couple's Cadillac. They were unhurt but shaken. The Harley was crushed and the rider had bounced off the windshield and was lying dead in a crumpled heap with his little novelty helmet smashed. His friends were all parked along side the road with shock on their faces. I still think about it every time I pass that spot. Next day's newspaper had a picture of the wrecked bike on the front page. Guy was 44 years old, what the hell was he thinking passing there? If he had waited for 1/2 mile there was a safe (and legal) spot to pass.
Most of the roads I choose to blitz on don't have near the traffic as that road on the video.

I'm a newbie, 1st post, so if I'm doing something wrong let me know. This is a great site. I've gotten some great tips from it so far. =)
Last year a group of us were down riding the Dragon at Deal's Gap. This (assuming the pic posts) was what we happened across on the Cherohala Skyway which is a stone's throw from the Dragon.
I have it on my 'puter desktop as a reminder of what can happen when you lose it on a curve. The guy riding was lucky. He hit a 3' high stone wall after hitting a concrete curb and that was after being thrown 100-150'. As far as I know, he only got a sprained ankle out of it. Sobering experience.

...and a 2nd E, for the goodies on it.
Talk about the "Towering Inferno", I've never seen anything like that since I watched 9,000 gallons of gas go up after a fuel tanker crash on the PA Turnpike in the '70's. Looks like a good reason to stay within your capabilities on the twisties. Glad to hear the rider was thrown clear of that mess.

Make sure its opening with Windows Media player.
WHat operating system do you have?
If it isn't opening in WinMedPlayer right click, go to properties hit Change and select it. Should be ok from there.

Do you want it done right or do you want me to do it?
If you're hearing it but not seeing it, then you probably don't have the latest codec for showing it, you can D/L the codecs. Depending on what version of Windows Media Player, it will try to find the codec from the internet!?

I've found that my XS11SF handles well up to a point and then it wants to go apes***. While that's good for an adrenaline rush, it's no longer my idea of fun. It's just not a good bike for blitzing twisties though it's OK on the smooth fast sweepers. I like my XS650s or my XS400 for the convoluted stuff.
