ok i need a detailed instruction on installing the accel coil kit and i need to know what kit number you guys used

the reason i need to know is i have heard people say do this do that and i need to know if you had to rejet your carbs when you did put the coils.

the main reason i am asking is my brother put them on his virgo 920 and couldnt get the bike to run right after he put them on and now had to go back to stock coils and cant even use the accel coil and i dont want to be in the same boat as him

    Hey Bandet01,

Have you seen this tech tip....it's for Dyna coils, but would be similar to Accel:Dyna coil Install Techtip

As for your brother's XV920, it uses the 2.7ohm style coils, which are inductive type, but if he got coils for a CDI ignition, thinking he had that type, then they would have been 0.7ohm which are the wrong type, and probably why they don't work!?

Our XS11's also use Inductive ignition, and so you want the higher resistance ones, 2.7-3.0 ohm style, that's about all you need to get the correct ones. I've seen the exact model numbers posted, just do a search for accel coils, you'll find it!

        Hey Bud,

They are the correct coils, IF you want to use the 3 ohm on your machine, but you'll need to remove/bypass your ballast resistor. The tech tip mentioned that Dyna did make a 1.5ohm version for the earlier model XS11's. SO depends on which one you want to use, either the 1.5 ohm or the 3 ohm!

Sorry about the link confusion. The first page on that website lists the DC41 coil.

You have to hit the dropdown to access the DC21

The Dyna coils I used in the tech tip were advertised as 6 volt. They are working perfectly.

6 volt???? Does the TCI have a regulator?
I was wondering about that too. Of the 3 Dual coil sets available which would be the direct replacement for ours?
I'm getting a weak spark and I think my #2 plug wire is broke at the coil. I'll try the "fix" listed in the tech tips but I need to know there'll be a backup for if/when I screw it up.

                  Hey Bud,

I don't know if any of these would be considered DIRECT replacements, but the 1.5ohms are closest for your model. However it's not a big deal to bypass the ballast resistor for the newer style 3 ohm coils. Have you seen this thread, it shows info about the much less expensive dual coils from MikesXS?

I think Accells 1403's are for TCI style ignition and 1404's are for CDI style ignition. Installing the wrong coils on a TCI ignition fries the Igniter. The resistor is under the tank on the left front side.

                          Bandet01,

It's a TCI, that's why it needs the higher resistance coils, not the CDI which uses the very low resistance coils!
