    John;
MRO lives on the east side of SF bay. It does stay warmer there, but we don't all have it that easy. I live about 60 miles from him, and I have a temp change of 25 to 40 degree between work and home. That's the reason the daily ride MUST have a fairing. I would be sweating and freezing inside of twenty minutes otherwise.

      cold weather riding

All you guys really know how to make a guy feel bad.
Here in Mora Mn. this morning it was +5 degrees. All I could do was look at the bike and cry. I'll just have to dream and get ti ready for spring. You know, typical maintenance and some oyher nice features. Too old to ride in this anyway.

Actually the cold weather serves a purpose...Otherwise I will never stop riding long enough to clean and fix up my bike!

It can get down to freezing here, but only happens a few times per winter. When there's no storms days can be in the 70's even in January. Seldom have to wear more than a light jacket.

But gust go out the valley and temps can drop 10 to 30 degrees.

Go up to Trucky (about 3 1/2 hour drive from here) and it gets the distinction of being the coldest place in lower 48 several times per year.

Weather services get the Hayward temp from the municipal airport. That's on the other side of town and my place in south Hayward is at the base of the hills that ring our side of the bay. Less wind and up to 10 degrees warmer than at the airport.

Best year round weather in the SF bay area.

I vist the cold now and then but could not live in it.

            MRO,

There you go again, you love it don't you, taunting us?!

I guess if I still lived in FL. I may be doing the same thing

30 degrees in Central Oklahoma this morning, slight breeze. Riding with Pacifico fairing and lowers. Leather jacket, sweat shirt, full face helmet, Clover textile armored pants over jeans, insulated leather gloves. A tad chilly on the fingers is all. Rode at least one day a week all last winter on a naked Maxim 650. Should be no trouble on Kong. Lots of sunshine here even in winter.

                Clover textile armored pants???

Have not been keeping up w/latest fashion. Still have my leather jacket but rarely wear it.

                What are armored pants?

I saw a pair of those "draggin jeans" in a bike store. Pretty cool look just like regular jeans but have a kevlar mesh at the seat and knees incase you accidently do some body surfing on your ride!

Armored pants have CE (European standard) knee and hip pads. Some also have shin guards. Mine don't. Fabric is balistic cloth with a Gore-tex wannabe waterproof but breathable (?) lining. Lots of companies make them. Not as good as leather, but less expensive and better than denim. They do a good job on wind too.

                      Armored pants

                      Thanks Poprock

Will have to take a look at local mc shop.
Been looking through the old boxes in the rafters in the garage trying to find my leather pants. My jacket is pretty snug when zipped up, gota feeling that if/when I find the pants they might be a little small.

                      Home for lunch right now.
Weather --- Sun shining and warm, too warm for leather

going to ride my XS back to work, do an oil change and then ride up to my dads at Bethel Island.

Really shouldn't take off work BUT it might get cold out here so i don't want to pass up such a beautiful day

Roger that, MRO. Only an insane sense of duty is keeping me in the office today. Sunny, no wind, low 60s here and the horizon is hundreds of miles away.

Yeah, I just checked at home ( over the hill from work) and it's 82 I came in late this morning, so I think I need to leave early to make up for it.

My outfit of choice is my First Gear jacket with the liner, and a pair of snowboard pants. I have three different levels of gloves to choose from. The snow board pants have zippers that go up each leg, makes it easier to get on and off. A good spray of Scotch-Gard keeps them waterproof.
                            When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

Flat out astounding how cold some of Texas can get.
Passed through back in 80/81 and it was snowing down in El Paso. With the wind etc. it froze that night. Had planned to take SWMBO accross the border for a lttle shopping but she made me pack up and get outa there.

Was in San Antonio and Corpus Christi in the early 70's and learned that "the wind don't blow in Texas, it sucks" also "if you don't like the weather wait a minute"

Actually had a great time then. Day time weather was good and the people were real freindly (mostly).

Can sure tell fall has fell here...my semi-wild feral cat who will rip and tear if I try to pet him during the summer months came in this morning, jumped in my lap and lay there purring sweet as can be. He only loves me when it's cold out!

Temps here, lows mid 30s F, highs upper 60s. Yesterday's ride (http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...7&pagenumber=3) I wore long johns under leather pants, corduroy shirt over t shirt under Brando jacket, open face helmet (got windshield) and lined but uninsulated gloves. On return trip added pile-lined winter shirt, wool scarf and switched to insulated gloves. Very comfortable both ways. Haven't used my balaclava yet this season except at night.
                                Shiny side up,
