  • as good as the first time

after spending all summer dealing with pins, cast, more casts, and braces after having a partial wrist fusion in may I finally felt up to messing with the bike. i charged my battery and after a few turns the old goldwing fired right up. i was suprised since i didn't get to prep anything before surgery. i made a run to the video store and took the long way home. granted it was only 3 miles but it felt fantastic. filthy windshield, exhaust leak, mushy rear brakes and all, i loved every minute of it. i'm sure i'll pay tonight when my wrist tightens up, but you have to pay to play and this was a check i was happy to write.

tax, tag, and title not included. limited time offer, freight and dealer prep extra. kids get your parents permission before calling!

I can sympathize. Spent 6 months in 3 different casts getting pretty much the same thing done...it sucks. Took a lot of work to get it strong again. Them damn pins were the worst...agony

        pins

i had 5 in my wrist. the doc assured they would slip right out and since since bone has no nerves it wouldn't hurt. the first 4 came out with just a strange sensation. #5 was the most horrific experience ever. i kept them for a sovenier. one of these days i'll frame them.

had this dude for 6 weeks

#5 is tucked in way down at the bottom. you can just see it.

          ACK!

I only thought mine was bad..just had 2.

It felt like he was pulling logs out of my wrist on both of them.

I wore the texture off the top of 2 different steering wheels with a cast just like that though.

Glad youre on your way to recovery... and I bet that ride felt great.
I rode a goldwing a week or so ago for the first time. It was a friends full dress 81 1100. For the first 20 miles I thaught I was gonna kill myself on it, then I had a beer. It went fine from there, but I had to push start it twice. It sat for a while. Scary, but fun. My XS seemed like a supersport crotch rocket with a log for a seat after that

              boat

mines an 83 1100 and it does feel like a boat at times. i do miss my xj1100 for playing around. i missed a few sweet xs1100 deals while i was out of service. i hope to pick up something over the winter. the gw is great for crusing though. it fits my 6 foot 280 frame well. the xj would tend to cramp my knees after a while.

                Hey Darryl,

I don't know where you got the idea that bones don't have nerves!? There is a membrane that surrounds the bones, called the periosteum, and it is full of nerves, and that's why they hurt so bad when they get broken!! And sometimes it can form adhesions to those pins, so when they're removed, they pull on that membrane, and send pain sensations!
Glad you got them out, though, and had a good ride! Good luck finding a local XS/XJ when you're ready to "UPgrade"! ;p

yup that silly doctor sad they would't hurt coming out. of course he also said the bone graph off my hip would only be a tiny incision and wouldn't be bothersome. i went home with 15 staples feeling like someone broke a 2x4 across my hip and balls. oh well you live you learn.
