  • winter adjustments & more?

I plan on riding most of the winter maybe not January/ February and was wondering if anyone makes any cold weather changes.
Specifically, I'm wondering if I should take the oil cooler off untll next spring. I know some folks go to lighter weight oils, anyone do anything else? BTW I put the windjammer back on in place of the windscreen I had on it and can't get over the difference. I forgot how much of the wind blast it knocks down.
Speaking of the windjammer, anyone use a CD player on their bike? I'm shopping for a radio to mount. Anyone using satellite radio?

If need be you can block you oil cooler. Depending on nice looking you want (and available talent) some options are:
Duct tape a piece of cardboard over it,
    Plastic shield,
Vinyl cover (much like the covers for off-road lights),
    etc.

I personally leave mine uncovered. I ride all year (California). It does get down to the upper 20's some mornings though most winter mornings it's in the mid 30's.

My winter bike (E) has the full Pacifico fairing and lowers. Keeps me fairly warm........ except for my thumbs. I've never been able to keep my thumbs warm. Tried dozens of gloves over the years.

      What's that

Just now getting to riding season in Houston today it was 101 in places. But then again we only have two seasons Winter = 10 Days, Summer = 355 Days
There's always a way, figure it out.

I have a pair of light leather gloves that work most of the time except on long rides in cold weather, then i put on the hippo hands.

I use a lighter weight oil, and warm clothes.

In Wisconsin, we have an actual winter, with ice and snow and everything. I have never touched my oil cooler, just let the bike warm up a lot longer than I normally do.

Also pay more attention to your tires. With the cold your pressures will be all over, and keeping them properly inflated is always a good thing.

          And be careful.
I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.

For cold hands try getting some latex or nirtile gloves on under your riding gloves, not really sure how it works but it works for me.
