    Katrina, one for the books

I know that all XSives are sending their prayers and best wishes to all those who've been caught in Katrina's wrath. Those XSives in the affected areas please check in as soon as you are able. We know you've got other priorities just now but we're all pulling for you.

Gas had just gone back down 10 cents here in rural NorCal, now they've jacked the price again even more than before, $2.959/gal 87 octane, $3.059 89 octane & $3.159 91 octane. Diesel holding steady at $3.049...all unbranded, name brands higher. This is just the beginning folks.

And even when things get better, the prices will stay high as long as dubya's in office. Anybody that think's he's not getting rich off this is wrong. His buddies are getting obscenly rich form the high prices. But that is just my opinion and we all know about opinions...

I really don't think Shrub is profiting personally now but IMHO he will probably be rewarded handsomely with some cushy non-job after he's out of office. That's just my take...we shall see... Looks like he's stepping up to do the right thing for disaster relief.

87 octane is up 15 cents here since yesterday, now well over $3/gal. Was just listening to the O'Reilly Factor and he advocates sending profiteers to jail. He served notice on oil company executives that he's watching their every move and will follow up on the story. He wants all looters arrested and prosecuted as well. In the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire the U.S. Army and SFPD shot looters on sight. They only had to shoot a very few and order was quickly restored.

Heard on the radio this morning that President Chavez of Venezuela, the guy the Reverend Pat Robertson wants assassinated (some Christian, hasn't he heard of Thou Shalt Not Kill?) has announced that Venezuela has ships, food and water ready and will send disaster relief if the U.S. asks. This is the guy President Bush calls our enemy and so far Venezuela is the only foreign nation to offer aid. What about our so-called friends and allies? Chavez has also offered to provide low cost fuel to impoverished victims of Katrina.

I read a few days ago in Thunder Press (a free California Harley rider paper) that if the U.S. and Canada were to reduce gasoline consumption by 7-8% we would be entirely independent of foreign oil. What in hell are we waiting for?

Just waiting for the phone call

                    Hi xs650Mike,
if you count Canada among your friends and allies, we have offered (among other things) Ontario Hydro linemen, BC government urban rescue teams and the Canadian Forces DART team but the US Government seems too proud to say what help they need.
BTW we have our own gouge artists too, Canada is 92% self sufficient in gasolene and still pump prices here went up 20 cents a litre "because of the hurricane"

Fred, fancy meeting you here! Your post on the 650 list led me to this site, thank you very much.

Sorry if you felt slighted, Chavez was just the first to offer. I'm sure he's mainly offering help for the propaganda value anyway.

It's at least giving our finance minister over here some relief. He's got a big black hole in his pocket.
73% tax on fuel at the moment. Fuel prices just went up 9% the last three days (because of Katrina).
